  1. If I went by distance I would probably only be on my second oil change in almost four years of owning my truck, although it does feel like a waist of money I swap it out anyway. It was pretty hard not to sell it while used truck prices soared but I couldn’t justify the replacement costs.

  2. The vertical section would work with a fifth wheel as long as you don’t ever need to jackknife your trailer. The bed rail section would be a no go for me, when making turns on even ground you would probably make contact. I have a tri folding bed cover and have come really close to it making tight corners on uneven ground. Honestly I wouldn’t do either. Wait until you have your truck and trailer and see how close your trailer would be to cab on a tight corner before you start fabrication.

  3. B&W hitch all the way. Had one in my above bed rail system and it was flawless. Got another one when I purchased my new 2019 with the OEM puck mount system and it has been great. It is a heavy piece of iron though, I believe it weighed in at 137lbs but I can easily remove/reinstall by myself since it can be separated into two parts. My buddy had a Reese and after he tried my B&W he replaced his with the B&W because he always had issues getting his latched/unlatched all the time.

My opinion, the main reason for the two different ratios comes down to tire size. And it's so slight, Ford doesn't even force one over the other. If they did it would be 3.31 ratio with 18"  & 3.55 ratio with 20". In tenth gear with 18" & 3.31 ratio at 65mph you're at 1423 rpm. 20" & 3.55 ratio at 65mph you're at 1428. 18" And 3.55 it's 1526 rpm. 20" & 3.31 it"s 1332 rpm.

twn0324, have you done the calculations with the 17” tires?  I like those calculations it really shows depending on which wheel size you went with it could increase or decrease the gap between the 2 gear sets.

  5. Considering the original poster was talking about towing 18k which is what we are talking about which is also near max towing I would take the 3.55. No I am not going to engage in arguing about what scenario you have dreamt up. I have read your posts on the other forum. No need for you to preach about what I need or someone else needs. There are 2 options and we can get what ever we choose is best for us.

  6. 3.55’s for me, if I was pulling that kind of weight I would want the lower gears. I am only towing about half what you are Robin Hood(I have the 6spd).  I’m sure the newer engine and trans combo would pull just fine with either gear set but I would take the 3.55 for the better off the line and it would be better for reversing with a heavy trailer as well.

  7. The most I have had was over 1300km and filled up at the next gas station as I was in the middle of nowhere. The truck was brand new at the time as well. I can get about 800kms on a tank in town driving. Surprisingly better in town on fuel than my 6.2 F250 was. This past summer I towed my fifth wheel and got around 750kms on a tank of straight towing, pretty much all flat land.

  8. Year one with the new truck has been great other than having to replace the windshield already and some recalls that have and still need to be checked out. I only managed to put on 10.7k km’s/6.7k miles, mostly due to work allowing us to take our work trucks home.  The ride is better than my 2011 and it pulls the trailer great. Really impressed with fuel mileage loaded and unloaded, I keep it under 110km/h.

  9. First year with the new truck and new B&W 20k hitch, both worked great, the only thing I don’t like about this hitch is the lack of adjustments.  My 16k B&W which had at least double the adjustability.  I am now not able to open the front storage on my fifth wheel all the way which can be a bit of a pain, this is also partially due to the tailgate being so deep at the top.

  10. I definitely don’t park close to the store I’m going in, usually at least halfway across the parking lot. I’m more concerned about getting door dings from others though as I have no problem backing the truck into tight spots when needed. No regrets here at all with my purchase, I use it to pull my 9k lbs fifth wheel which it does with ease, and it will pull my next one as well when we decide to upgrade in the future. If you tow much you will enjoy having the 48g fuel tank. My last tank of straight towing was 700kms/438m and still had a quarter tank left.

So you can't un-hook the whole thing for times when you need the bed open... like to haul a load of dirt?

that's a bummer :( I need something I can take off when I need to or just put on for the winter.

I know how much it sucks to shovel out the bed with 2 feet of wet snow

I haven’t had to remove mine as of yet but it would only take a a few minutes to remove, just something you would want to do before you left home.

  12. I am in southern Alberta and I have had a good amount of snow on it a couple times and it held up great and it’s easier to sweep off then  cleaning out the box.  I have also walked across it once and it held up(175lbs). It has been really good so far, easy to clean, open and close. I haven’t had to remove it yet, if you needed the whole box to haul something big you wouldn’t have the full box as they fold up into a third of the total length as you can see in my other pics(the silver truck).
