MY 2023 F-150 Lightning Lariat is $70k for the standard range version, $77.5k for the extended range version. MY 2023 F-150 Lightning XLT is $55k for standard range version, $70k for extended range version.

As such, MY 2024 pricing is stable in comparison to MY 2023 for F-150 Lightning.

You are right, I misread another article. So now the flash costs the same as the 2023 extended range xlt, but has more features. So what does that mean for the extended range xlt? Maybe it’s a goner? Can’t see the need for both.

Initially I was disappointed that the 2024 Nautilus I have on order wasn't going to be made in North America by union labor. Now, I'm kind of glad that it won't be. Though the Canadian union doesn't seem to have gone nuts like the UAW.

As prices continue going up, less and less people will care where a vehicle is made. If the quality is there, it gets really hard to justify the increased price just because something is made in America.

Theres enough loopholes in the contract that can be manipulated by the company to make temps around on a long term basis. If I’m not mistaken, you need to be employed for 1 calendar year (and I think full time at that) in order to be flipped to a permanent seniority employee. I haven’t seen too much of it at my plant but I’ve heard stores from elsewhere where people keep getting flipped from full time to part time to reset that clock.

I consider a temporary worker as someone who is contracted through a temporary agency. They get paid by the temp agency, not by the employer, and come at a substantial cost savings to the employer because they don’t have to pay any benefits. What you are describing sounds like the employment status within ford changing from part time to full time or vice versa?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I don’t hate that most recent offer. Make the COLA formula a little stronger, limit the amount of time a temp can be a temp to 90 days (I’ll settle for 6 months) with zero caveat and make the wage progression the length of 1 contract and I’m good with it.

I understand COLA and the tiers, but what’s the issue with temps?

  5. At my employer, most raises are based on performance and merit on an individual basis. The very best employees might get a raise every other year and average employees might get one every 3-4 years. If you aren’t performing, you might never get a raise. We got a COLA raise this year, but it’s been a decade or more since the last one.

Thanks for that Carscoops article DeluxeStang. If Ford's decision to not bring Ranger PHEV to the U.S. market means that Ranger BEV will arrive in that market sooner, that would be great news.

I think it’s more a reflection of ford being cheap. There are lots of features the global ranger has that the American ranger doesn’t, like cup holders that pop out of the dash, rear ac vents, electronic shifter for all trims, etc. Just add the hybrid to the list.

People believe the union leadership is weak that’s why. 11:59pm was the deadline the expectation was to walk at midnight. We were told Unifor was presented with a substantive offer so we will just have to wait and see how this plays out cause we know nothing in terms of information. The talk of the town is how the UAW is putting all the information out there while our union is keeping us in the dark. We all know traditionally bargaining is kept private anyways.

I don’t know, I think I would prefer the way unifor is negotiating personally. When you throw out crazy numbers like 46% raises, that does not help to get the public on your side. If anything, it makes the public think you are crazy. If the uaw’s main talking point was that it takes 8 years to get to the top tier, I think the public would be a bit more sympathetic. Everyone can relate to not getting raises for a long period of time and would surely back that cause, but no one can relate to 46% increases.

The only difference is battery size and the ability to recharge it externally.

Given the way that Ford is doing hybrids with powershift transmission, there won't be a non-plug in version, because it really doesn't make sense to offer it because the pricing wouldn't be that big of a deal. Plus having the power to run things is another selling point vs extra MPGs and extra power.

The f150 power boost is a full hybrid and it can still power tools. I would think a PHEV version would be much more expensive, at least that is how it’s previously been when ford or any automaker has offered both in a particular model.

I understand that eliminating tiers is a big one.

Fain will probably get a lot of what he wants.  I expect that the rank and file will love this guy and that he'll be president of the UAW for as long as they allow.

Could someone explain why eliminating tiers is a big deal? As a veteran employee, would you want some brand new employee making the same amount as you? That doesn’t make sense. Your basically saying all of your knowledge and experience you’ve gained over the years is worthless. There has to be something that I’m missing

Yes it is and there’s obviously other issues that need settlements, right?

"We put an offer in today that's our most generous offer in 80 years of the UAW and Ford," said Farley. "Pay increases, elimination of tiers, inflation protection, five weeks of vacation, 17 paid holidays, bigger contributions for retirement.

obviously I don’t have the agreement so don’t know exactly what it entails, but this would seem to indicate most demands were met.

Anybody who really thinks a 46 % raise and a 32 hour work week are happening are stupid. I work for Ford and I said that bullshit isn’t gonna happening. People are ripe for disappointment if they think a 46 percent raise is gonna happen. It’s called bargaining aim high meet somewhere in the middle pension are a huge issue, tiers, job security.

Would you say 20% raise is not meeting in the middle? Between 0 and 46% it’s about as close to the middle as you can get, yet the uaw turned it down.

  12. Serious question here. How do these negotiations work? Does ford get to demand anything from the workers or is it only the union that makes the demands? Can any of the union demands be tied to performance? One of ford’s biggest issues right now is the quality of their product. They have had the most recalls of any automaker for the past two years and I’m sure they spend a ton on warranty costs. It would seem fair to me to give cost of living adjustments and then tie anything over that to meeting certain quality standards.

So unless Ford is willing to spend billions on building 3-4 assembly plants in Mexico to get around the union "issue" here, I just don't see it happening like that.

Maybe not all at once, but I could see them opening at least one plant there in the next few years. Wasn’t it just a few years ago they were going to build a focus plant there until the focus was cancelled?
