    The most recent report from Automotive news was that S650 (coming in 2022 as a '23MY) would last 8 years with a refresh in 2025 as a '26MY. They are assuming S650 moves fully to CD6, but good info here seems to infer that it'll be the current platform, but with the best bits of CD6 cherry picked. It was even stated on here that it will be called D5 (so, D2C + CD6 = D5)

    The last car standing in Ford Motor Co.'s U.S. portfolio will stick around through at least the next decade.

    The automaker plans to stretch the next-generation Mustang program to eight years, up from a previously planned six, suppliers have been told.

    Production of the next-generation Mustang will begin in late 2022 for the 2023 model year, according to people familiar with Ford's product plans.

    The expectation for an eight-year program mirrors the life cycle of the current model, which went on sale in 2014.

    It's not uncommon for automakers to shift product timelines in the years leading up to the launch of a new or redesigned model. Extending the seventh-generation Mustang's life cycle could help Ford save on engineering and development costs for a relatively low-volume nameplate as consumers increasingly opt for utilities or pickups.

    The extension also signals Ford's confidence in the storied nameplate even as rumors swirl that one of its competitors, the Chevrolet Camaro, could be discontinued.

    The next-generation Mustang is expected to be moved to the same rear-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive platform shared by the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator, which could mean a slightly larger silhouette.

    Suppliers have been told that annual production volume for the next-gen pony car will tally just under 100,000 vehicles a year: Coupe volumes are projected at 77,000, and up to an additional 20,000 convertibles are planned, suppliers say.

    The vehicle is scheduled for a freshening in 2025, suppliers have been told.

     

  2. I don't know enough about this, but could it be related to the closure of the Romeo engine plant? I would assume that the 5.2 Predator engine could be built elsewhere but, if not, the 6.8 could be a replacement for that in a future Shelby? The previous GT500's Trinity engine (5.8 Supercharged V8) only lasted 2 model years, so is it possible that Predator will only last 3 model years ('20/'21/'22.......then S650 is launched as a '23MY)

  3. I agree. This doesn't mean it's going in S650. Ford have already stretched the limits of what a Mustang can be with Mach E, so this could go in another vehicle Ford decides to call a Mustang. However, surely the options are limited? Right now the only Fords with V8s are the Mustang and the F-Series. Would they really badge an F-Series as a Mustang?

    However, given how several good sources here have indicated S650 will be a heavily reworked S550 (D2C) with selected elements of CD6 I think RHD is still very possible. Besides, if Ford wants to keep hitting that 100k sales target it'd need all the global sales it can get, including RHD. Australia is, I believe, the second biggest market for Mustang outside of North America.

     

    Personally, I get the impression that this website just thinks they'll plonk the Mustang body on an Explorer chassis and call it good.

     

    The "problem" is Ford never openly discusses future product, so they will neither confirm nor deny this rumor. Heck, Ford UK still states "we have no current plans to sell the Mach 1".......and that's already been spotted in RHD pre-production form! (they said the same about the Bullitt.......but they've sold plenty of them here since!)

  6. Can I ask a potentially silly question? The latest list shows Mustang production for 8/10/2020 and 8/24/2020....and shows these as the '20MY.

     

    As far as I know, at least from what this article shows, Flat Rock will be down for a week from August 3rd for the Summer shutdown. Doesn't this usually coincide when the new model year switchover occurs? So my assumption (which is probably wrong!) is that '21MY production would start from August 10th. But that obviously doesn't fit with the dates above.

     

    Any light you can shed would be appreciated, thank you!

  7. If a production Mustang was ever going to get twin turbos, it would probably have been the GT500, but as we know that went with a tried and tested supercharger.

     

    Mach1 has never been boosted......it's always been a n/a car and I don't expect that to change. Mach 1 will not tread on GT500's toes. It'll sit in the line-up somewhere along the lines of the Bullitt and GT350, both of which are gone for '21MY. The twin circular "intakes" could be spot lights.......but I hope not, lights in the grille worked for the S197's retro vibe, but don't work on the more modern S550 (in my opinion). They could just be intakes, like the '12/'13 Boss 302 had (well, they had covers which could be removed).

     

    I'm hoping for/expecting a n/a 5.0 with around 500hp........hopefully with the optional 10-speed auto or the GT350's Tremec manual. A mix of PP2/GT350 suspension/brakes and that sprinkle with Mach 1 stripes/hood blackout/unique seat trim etc.

    It's certainly a popular trim here in the UK (well, not on the Edge, as we don't get that anymore).

     

    One thing though......isn't it rather late to be showing this as a '20MY? Surely makes more sense as a '21MY?

  9. I still wonder if this rendering was "planted". It was on the website that showed the Mach E renderings........the designs that made it and those that didn't.......go to "Sketches" and it's half way down the page.

    It definitely says "Mach E" on the title, but Mach E was never going to be a 2-door coupe and that's definitely what this sketch is. Open the grille (as opposed to the blanked off EV version) and that would make a nice S650. Its not that far from the current S550 design.
