Boy you're right about that. The Fusion's space in the backseat seemed a little larger. Lot's of headroom upfront too. The seats are lower to the ground than the Taurus which makes it harder for me to get in and out of, but I'm going back to the Ford dealership to give the Fusion a test drive. They don't have a Sport but they're easy enough to find elsewhere.
I drove a fairly loaded V6 Taurus and it is very comfortable and has that "big car" feel to it which I like. The interior is nice and upscale and it rides quiet, but it feels rather slow and sluggish. Sort of meh. This dealership just got a SHO off the truck which wasn't prepped to be driven yet so I'll be going back to try it. Problem is it's black which I don't prefer but it's a pretty sweet looking.
If I can be comfortable in the Fusion I'll lease it.
