The “Godzilla” image/moniker has served Ford’s sales department well. SMH.
The facts? It makes far less than half the torque of a diesel, at more than twice the RPM..
While it’s a fine, lesser cost gas option, one should not make the mistake between the two. There is no remote comparison.

No doubt however my travel trailer is about 7K fully loaded and even through the mountains the 7.3 does great. If you are pulling heavy diesel for sure.

Well... I'm not shy with the gas pedal, and my job is driving to multiple stops in the city, I get between 8-10mpg, which is what I got with both my '09 V-10 and my '17 6.0L 2500HD gassers.  I just completed a trip from TX to IN, and back, and surprisingly got 16mph for the trip.

That makes sense. I drove 600 miles across the Midwest not towing a few months ago and got about 15. If I keep my foot out of it and stay around 60 I can approach 17. I do REALLY LOVE the 4.10 when it’s time to tow though. The 7.3 is a GREAT motor and I really love the 10-speed also.

I would think with the 10-speed transmission, you would be OK with the 3.73's... you'll be heavy, but not that heavy.  The only caveat to that would be if you pull stuff... heavy trailer, or do a lot of off-roading (think mud/farm) where you might be pulling or recovering.

My '23 has the 7.3L/3.73 combo... but I've not yet pulled anything with it.  It's normal workday payload is 800-1000# and you can't even tell it's back there.... except the smoother ride.  ;)

What sort of mpg are you getting?

I’ve been diesel since 1997 and I’ve have all 3 through the years.  I currently have a ‘22 F350 6.7L as my good truck and a 2019 Duramax for my farm truck.  The GMC is getting weak in the knees and has an 8 foot Knapheide service bed stuffed full of parts and tools.  This truck is heavy, real heavy (just shy of 14k gross) but has done pretty well considering the life it has lived.  To replace the Duramax, I just order a 2024 F350 CCLB Lariat with the 7.3L and 3.73 rears.  I’m sick of fighting the diesel emissions and figured I’d give a 7.3L a try.  Guess my only question is, should I go 4.10 instead of 3.73?  Truck will be heavy all the time and only towing it will do is 1000 gallon fuel trailer around 3 months out of the year during harvest times.

I went the 4.10 route because I mostly tow. It does affect gas mileage but tows really well.

I plan to put an order in for one and sell the 22

OMG Not Me!!!  I'm done waiting on new truck.  Took me over 8 months to get my 22.  I agree that it is fun to see new things but I plan to be buried in my 22.  ?

  6. She was delivered to me on 4/12.  I've gotten all the add-ons installed and am almost to 1,000 miles.  Got the insurance, property tax and tags all paid yesterday.  Our first outing with the trailer is this weekend.  Not going very far but looking forward to the maiden voyage.  So far I really love this truck!  Took me 8 months and two days to get her.  I now see she was worth the wait.

  7. Mine tried to do this also.  Luckily I had a signed offer by the same sales manager.  I don't care what kind of deal they have with Ford, I had a signed deal with them and they ended up honoring it.  Of course, I probably still got hosed on the extended warranty but that is for another post.  ?

  8. About the same as others here.  I've got the 7.3, Crew, Short bed, 4.30 gears, right at 1,000 on the clock.  My first towing will be this weekend hopefully.  It's been WINDY AS HECK here and I've been seeing 12.7 or so with mixed driving.  Was hoping for a bit better but with the size and wind etc., still pretty happy.  My 12 Eco only got a couple better.  I'm also hoping that while towing I get better than the Eco did at 6-7.

Anyone have a good rear seat cover recommendation? Looking for something that fits, without just hanging real loose, and is fairly sturdy and won't tear. I will have two cars seats in the back so want to protect the seats as best as possible. Have been looking at Marathon Seat Covers, fairly pricey though.

Tiger tough by Linex. Love mine.

Three weeks ago they said orders not already previewing will be rolled over into the next cycle. Then they post another week of scheduling just to say the same thing. I placed two orders on the same day. GMC and Ford. And guess what arrived last Thursday. I tried and tried and tried with Ford. Massive name in the Heavy Duty truck industry and other companies are out producing them and figuring out the supply chain issues. Everything I ordered in the ford I ordered in the GMC. NOT ONE COMMODITY RESTRAINT! I even have a spray in bed liner, 5th wheel hitch, and adaptive cruise control. Couldn’t wait anymore with you all.

Gotta say, that is a nice looking truck.  Normally I'm not a fan of GMs but that one looks really good.  Enjoy!

I'm happy for you.  Our journeys were similar.  You ordered a little before me and are getting yours a little after me.  I picked mine up this past Friday afternoon.  It is an awesome truck!

Yeah, I can't wait.  I must be very spoiled, 8 months to the day was a VERY LONG TIME to wait for anything.  ?   I've scheduled the pick up to be tomorrow morning.  I'm going to fight the urge to drive the 25 miles down there tonite and take a look.  I couldn't get off work with such short notice today.

Trucking companies vary widely in terms of what kind of tracking they support. It ranges from some guy who owns a truck and uses his cellphone for everything all the way to corporate trucking companies with fleets of thousands of trucks and specialized software and processes for everything.

Ironically, the worst of those, when it comes to communications/tracking, is going to be the merger of the two. That is to say a corporate trucking company that contracts independent truckers or smaller companies to handle a load. Then you have a hard disconnect because the corporate doesn't want the customer talking to the driver who they've contracted.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to get to is the dealer is the most reliable link in that chain and it sounds like the dealer has marked it as being in final prep. So, yay, your truck is delivered.

That is really what I was hoping for. I feel really bad for all the folks waiting on theirs right now. Seems like things are just getting worse all the time. I’ve been waiting for 8 months and am really looking forward to finally driving her home.

  13. Thank you for the replies. It’s just so frustrating because final prep does seem like it should be at the dealer but the trucking company site still says pending. And it seems weird that the truck would have delivered it to the dealer in a Saturday. Guess maybe I’ll find out tomorrow if it is at the dealer.

  14. Last night the tracker changed to Final Preparation. I’m wondering what this means. The shipper website still says pending on trucking my truck from the rail yard to the dealer. And I haven’t heard from my dealer yet. Not surprising because it is a weekend but….

Does this normally mean it’s made it to the dealer?

My pickup arrived at the dealer today!   I thought I would show the timeline for others still waiting.

F250 Lariat 4X4 7.3L gas CCLB.  It does have the spray in bedliner, 5th wheel prep pkg, wheel well liners, mud flaps, and power running boards.

    Ordered 10/22/21

    Built  3/25/22

Shipped 3/26/22, with estimated delivery dates of 4/7 to 4/13

    Unloaded at rail head 4/5/22

    Arrived at the dealership 4/9/22

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Congrats. Mine got to the rail head a week ago tomorrow. Still waiting. Very happy for you though.
