Michael In MA posted a topic in Escape & Kuga ForumA few weeks ago we got a 2022 Escape PHEV. The other morning it would not start. It looked like the 12V battery died. Looking around the web I found out how to jump start it. The jump start battery showed the voltage way down. We found the high voltage battery was charged over 2/3. In the forums it looks like it is a common problem. Why??? How is the 12V battery charged? It is my wife’s and she has been trying it on EV only and charging it at night. If it is only off the engine or is somewhere in the drive train? If only off the engine it has not been charged for days. Also, she could have left something on. Still, it looks like there is no connection between the 2 batteries.
Escape PHEV "Beginner's EV"?
MrCurvedLimos posted a topic in Escape & Kuga ForumI've been watching video reviews of the Escape PHEV and I've heard several reviewers make the claim that "the Escape PHEV is a good car for people who aren't ready to go fully electric yet." The commonality of the sentiment suggests to me that it's an item on a list of talking points provided by Ford. My wife and I want to make long (1 to 2 week) trips around the country exploring the National Parks after the pandemic. We only own one car, which since 2015 has been a C-Max Energi. It fits our needs quite well, except its range around town leaves something to be desired, its turning radius is terrible, and the step in the cargo floor is a much bigger impediment than we imagined. We recently test-drove a '21 Escape PHEV and loved it, so we ordered one. To me it seems our new Escape phev will hit a sweet spot. My wife and I can save money by owning and maintaining only one car, be eco-friendly by doing all of our in-town driving on electric, and still be able to traipse around the country by taking advantage of the existing national infrastructure of gas stations... and get 40 mpg while we're doing it (better than the C-Max!). What I'm curious about is this marketing idea that, "It's not the cars that's aren't ready, it's you." Is that true? Would my wife and I really be able to own only one fully-electric car and take long trips across the US exploring the highways and the byways, without having to worry about running out of joules somewhere? If the answer is, "Not yet," how long will it be before that's actually possible?
'21 Escape PHEV in the wild
Virgil22 posted a topic in Escape & Kuga ForumAfter lots of searching and many false leads, I was finally able to locate an SE trim Escape PHEV at a dealer almost 500 miles away (hey Ford - your online inventory system sucks). Placed a deposit and collected it this week. Got 40 electric miles followed by 41mpg highway all the way back (in regular driving mode, not ECO). It charges in about 12hrs off a regular 110V outlet. So far very pleased with it, save for a few quirks like wading through what felt like 30 screens of settings in SYNC and Android Auto 🤪 (e.g. figuring out how to turn adaptive cruise into normal cruise-control). The color ("antimatter blue") looks black most of the time and only really shows the blue in bright lighting such as sunlight. Handling is essentially identical to the gas engine version we test-drove - pickup in EV only mode is adequate but not mind-blowing. Convenience package (electric driver seat adjust and power lift-gate) definitely worthwhile additions. Being FWD only, I'm excited to see how it handles once we get some snow on the ground (may end up getting snow tires).
2021 Escape PHEV - "Real World" Electric Range
jblas16 posted a topic in Escape & Kuga ForumJust wondering if I'm alone in seeing less than advertised EV range. I've seen as little as 30 miles on a full charge. Granted, driving style has an impact no doubt and my wife has been primarily driving my 2021 Escape PHEV, but I'm just wondering if others are getting the 37 EV only miles (or more). Any tips on boosting the range? Thanks!
