Cruise Control

My cruise quit working shortly after I had the steering wheel off for ignition switch work. This is what I found during my trouble shooting.

1) key off -- 12 volts on the outer brush contact and 0 volts on the inner.

2) key on -- 12 volts on the outer brush contact and 7.5 volts on the inner brush contact.

3) outer brush shows little wear, inner brush looks like the side of a mountain.

4) battery voltage to the speed control amplifer like the manual shows.

5) resistance check is more than 1 OHM. The shop manual says either the brush contacts or the turn signal

are bad.

6) Ford dealer says the wire harness is no longer in production.

My question is Could I buy new brushes and keep my harness?

This is for an '88 F-150

Thanks for any input,

Mike
