mystang
Ok, so I actually have a 96 Mazda B4000LE Ext. cab with 2wd and the 4.0 Love the truck, but am tired of replacing the brakes. So, am posting here asking for suggestions/recommendations as to where online to buy replacement pads/rotors. Money is an object, though and I can install them, soo trying to spend less than 300. Thanks in advance for any help. Oh..and have tried NAPA and yeah, they sucked. Brett

What do you tow, haul, where you drive, how far, etc. I frequent another site. FTE.com They have sections for each type of Ford (and Mazda) truck. Their joys, foibles, fixes and what have you. You might check there. Have you experienced unusual wear on the pads? Or what??? Brakes are not the simple devices they used to be.
JW
I never had a set of pads that lasted more than 20-25,000 miles on the front of my Ranger. I ran all sorts of pads on it, from the el cheapo pads to the more expensive compounds. They all performed about the same and wore about the same. I'd go with Autozone's Duralast Gold; I have those on the front and rear of my Expedition and the front of the girlfriend's Explorer, and they do the job well for not a lot of money. Rotors - I DID have much better success after I switched to slotted/drilled rotors. I used to warp stock rotors every 30,000 miles or so (I'm VERY hard on brakes; I've done about the same in my Expedition). I switched to the drilled and kept them for over 200,000 miles (they don't warp because they shed heat a lot better). Check out www.rotorpros.com for the rotors. Meanwhile, I kept the factory rear brake shoes for over 200,000 miles...
mystang
JW...Normal, everyday driving. I will admit, like Jonas1022, that I am kinda hard on them, but no towing or anything. And, I live at the beach, so there is not a lot of elevation here. I will look into the rotors mentioned, as I saw some online yesterday for about 180 for a set. As for driving, I would say I put about 20,000 a year on my truck...love to drive, what can I say. Will look into FTE as you mentioned. Thanks for the info..any further? My wife however can trash a set of pads on the front of her Escort in about 25K miles. My son is at about 160K miles on his Escort and it's second replacement set of pads. My f-150 is on it's second (first replacement set) at over 150K miles. I guess everyone drives differently... But, yeah. I can't say much other than FTE for truck issues on your Ranger/Mazda. mystang
Just wanted to thank you for the help/advice. I ended up going with rotorpros.com, spoke to Rich who was very helpful. Got a nice set of cross-drilled rotors and pads for 180.00 shipped. I checked online for comments about them, and nearly everything I saw was positive. Will update after getting them broken in. I am also saving the other sites for future reference. Thanks again, Brett
lownrangr
www.ranger-forums.com is a good one too. as for front brakes, I had a set of napa's and they were worthless. They were almost as bad for brake dust as the stock ones too. A few months ago I replaced my rotors and pads with raybestos ceramic pads and so far I like them a lot. bec5150
Here's the problem, little known, with Ranger brakes, especially if you have a stick. Rangers only adjust the rear drums if the brakes are used with some force while going in reverse. My front rotors went to pot and when I went to get them turned the guy said "Ahh, is it a stick" and I said "yup." he then told me to make a habit, about once every few weeks, of backing up at 5MPH and giving the brakes a good use. That was 60K ago. The brakes have been fine since.
