timmm55
Ford Jellymould is rather fond of the old Cortina, I like them too, my brother had one back in the mid 70s....a 69 I think. Someone mentioned they were looking for a small RWD sedan with a manual trans. Other than BMW I can't think of anything. Seems like there is a need for something like the Cortina, Datsun 510, etc. The market has been abandoned for FWD cars. It would make a great little economical sport sedan and be a base for a possible future Mustang. I used Miata wheels btw......sort of a 4 door box top Miata. :happy feet: I left on the Euro mirrors.....just because I like them and thought they'd be cool retro touch. Ford Jellymoulds
Thanks very much for taking the time to do the rendering of the Cortina Tim gotta say l always admire and am amazed at what you guys do BON the overexposed blue paint look is not quite to my taste though, l think l prefer Ford's Mink blue and Sapphire blue protective paint scheme of the late 60's. My favourite Cortina's were the Mk 1 which was the only Cortina l ever owned and the Mk3 Camero coke bottle shaped Cortina which l nearly bought but was put off of OHC engine that used to chew the camshaft up at the time. Gotta say l don't want to see the Cortina make a come back l was just impressed with what a big hit they were in their day for Ford Timmm55, l would be more than happy to buy a Mondeo or the Taurus if the front end styling was not so boring and bland the rest of the car is just great. Ford should have carried on and made the Cortina/Sierra/Mondeo whatever the name it does not bother me to be more like the Classic Mercedes 190, 280 with the classic front ends of BMW 3, 5 and 7 series of the past which might not have done much for the aerodynamics but it would have been a massive hit for sales at time, it would have kept Cortina/Sierra/Mondeo firmly planted as No1 spot in Europe and the UK where the Cortina always was. Gotta say l loved the Cortina but it was never my favourite Ford in Europe, the Capri and Escort always were. timmm55
I was trying to envision a small RWD chassis from the past that could be built upon....and the Cortina of that era reminded me of the Falcon.....that of course spawned the Mustang. The Cortina/Falcon were not exciting cars to look at.....at least the 4 door sedan in basic guise.......but they were honest, reliable and functional. They had an integrity. Any other ideas or chops are welcome. Edited September 29, 2008 by timmm55
