The Republican War on Voting

We live in a society that, almost without exception, the amount of immorality, illegal activities, lack of common sense, and corruption increases as one climbs the socio-economic ladder. The only difference is that the further one goes up the ladder - the less one is caught, or has to pay for their mistakes.

IF you have ever seen Leno's 'Jay-walking' (I believe that is what is called - not sure) where he interviews people on the streets of LA on everyday common knowledge (you know - things that a fifth grader would know), it is very scary when one considers the future of this country. By the same token, the absolute lack of common sense and stupidity that executives of our nation's banks and investment companies have exhibited in recent years purchasing high-risk 'investments' surpasses even those brain-dead interviewed on the streets of LA. One could also apply that to the absolute stupidity of the executives of the Detroit 3 for what -- the last 30 years?

We prosecute and imprison anyone that steals (and gets caught) $20 from a 7-11 - but if you steal millions, nay billions - from thousands of people (Enron for example) -- it is rare that the perps ever even get prosecuted, let alone punished for their theft. So these thieves (Enron-types, Wall Street thieves, etc), they are not "common working folks" - but they should be allowed the right to vote (and determine something as important as who our president should be) when many of them DO NOT HAVE ANYMORE common sense (and morals) than the common working folk?

Sorry, I don't buy it. I have known many, many people at both ends of the totem pole and most of the time the one's lower on the totem pole are better people - than those at the top. Our fore-fathers did the best that they could, based on the time in which they lived. They were not soothsayers, able to even comprehend how far we have come, anymore than those that penned the Bible (and all those texts that were not included in the Bible) even had an inkling of what was to come . . . but that should not mean that we cannot, or should not, diligently apply, and update those rules to apply to today (within the framework of what was intended at the time).

The EC was also invoked because of the inability to communicate information to the more rural areas of the country, at that time, and many believe to throw more influence to slave and large land owners of the time (coincidentally, some of those same 'fore-fathers' qualified in this regard). Well, we come way past that. Hell, we even gave women the right to vote (the fore-fathers didn't - ask your wife what she thinks about that). Maybe we should rescind that too as - the fore-fathers didn't think that women were responsible enough -- to vote for the president.
