banjomaniac
My Daughter is home from college and she is having a surging problem with her 01 Taurus. When I drove it I noticed that when I start it up it seems OK in park but when I put it in gear it sort of jumps and surges up and down, you got to push the brake hard and it is pretty bad but once it warms up it is fine, I could barely detect the surge while driving and stopped in gear. That being said I had it checked and the guy at the shop said he couldn't find anything that was causing it and suggested the injecters be cleaned. Anyone have any ideas on this, after reading on the Ford forum someone suggested this site and I see a lot of people are having the same issues with the engine surging. I checked all the vac lines and I replaced the pcv valve and the hose it conects to because it was cracked, still runs bad. banjomaniac in NC
itguy09
You could try cleaning the IAC (Idle Air Controller) - it controls the idle speed. Or also replace the coolant temperature sensor. If it's fluctiating when cold the computer may be confused.
