midnighter
Is there anyone else out there who would have liked to be invited to the black lake extended shut down vacation extravaganza? Our new administration is hitting the ground running, for their lives. We expected a little more for our vote but it looks like a replay of the not so great administrations of the recent past. For 24 years, I've been a loyal dues paying union member and this is what I get? I bear no ill intent with this post, but I was just wondering if there is anyone else out there with the same interest in the credentials needed to make the black lake guest list. I think a list should be posted in the committee mens' office and updated monthly with the names of individuals willing to attend. This would end the bragging about repeated visits and keep the visits both company and union minded, not just for a week long party paid for by the union dues of all of us. For all those wondering, this is my first post and probably my last, as it seems that against the grain thinking is and will be unpopular.

Certain people that instead of volentering to help their union or just doin their jobs that they werent re elected to, they cause a bunch of BS thats not TRUE ...An nobody seems to be MAD at management at all , WTF ?? The people would have been loaned out weather their was a trip to the lake or not.... And by the way our union dues do not pay for people to go to black lake , so my suggestion to you is if you want to go to black lake GET INVOLVED and you will ..... If you read the expenses page of our "solidarity" magazine, you would see that the Black Lake facility and the stays there ARE funded by the UAW, who gets their funds from where? Thats right, union dues.

Stugots
It has come to my attention the moves made during the "black lake week" would have been necessary whether the trip occurred or not.------------------------------------------------------------ Which is better, to be layed off or to gather unity and strength at Black Lake?----------------------------------------------------------On the subject of unity I was impressed by the unified front of UAW reps at the gates this morning.-------------------------------------------------------It was a welcome sight that I'm sure many would like to see more of.------------------------------------------------------------Thank you---

A fyi we don't wanna see you guys at the gate so after we go in you can goto breakfast....We wanna see you on our jobs and getting stuff done!!!!!!!!!! If the Jeff you are refering too is the prez, his job is not on floor, it is working out of the local. If he is in the plant, then he is not doing his job. He is involved in local bargaining and should get in the plant time to time, but being the prez takes a lot of time, and a lot of your own time after hours. As far as Black lake attendees, if you don't get involved then you don't deserve to go. Get involved and get up there, it is a nice place and you do learn alot if you apply yourself while you are there. This is usually paid for out of joint funds because the company can actually send salaried fks as well, but have not done so since around 2000. So the company picks up some and then the UAW picks up some. You do meet a lot of people that are involved in their local unions and allows you to network with others at different plants. Like I said, great experience, get involved and get up there!

I wanted to know why him and lil man got fined 100 dollars up at black lake cuz we heard it was for their obnoxious behavior! But it would be nice if he went to his office more often! And as far as being involved there was a lot of people that just went that aren't involved with the union.

The money comes out of your own pocket and goes into the fund for the scholarship essay program that our children benefit from.... There's nothing wrong with coming back from Black lake with a story or two to tell... Solidarity

For those of you who do want to go, get involved it is a nice place with a lot of history and you will meet life long friends in the labor movement. 228electrician
let me try to clear this up, i have been to black lake years ago, it is for bonding and education, if your not participating in union/company issues at the plant, you should not be there. there is no benefit of going, you leave your family and friends to live in a box(room) that you share with a stranger sometimes, away from your normal life and hobbies for a week or more, to attend 8 hours of classes a day, than socialize with other active union brother and sisters, really a little to campy for me, and your far away from anything your use to so your stuck discussing union/company issues with others all day long after the classes. It does strenghten ties with other union members, so unless your willing to get active in the union, i would recommend not wasting your time on that trip that some tend to think is something special. As for the fines, they are set up as a fund raiser for different causes, nothing serious, and its not like they broke the rules, usually its a compition to see who gets fined the most since its going to a good cause. If a rule was actually broken, they would be kicked out and sent back to their local for bad behavior without a warning and instantly escorted out. I've never been to Black Lake, but heard it was a blast.. My buddy had chicks in his room all the time drinking and partying.. Sounded really cool!. I don't think Black lake tho is doing a bit of good for anyone that has been elected. Most of the union reps in Saline can't even write a basic overtime grievance. So I'd like to know what is actually being taught there and who is doing the teaching? I also heard that if your a current union rep you can pick up your Vegas tickets and Purple Orchid VIP lap dance passes at Black Lake, is this true?
