jerseyphil Posted November 11, 2010 Share Posted November 11, 2010 This new diesel, 400HP/800FT-LBS TORQUE, pulls my Keystone Cougar 5th wheel so easily, I am truly amazed. In TOW/HAUL mode, the exhaust brake works tremendously well!! I love this truck. It has proven to be everything the advertizing hype said it was. Trans shifts beautifully, and mileage is great. Highway, driving at 65MPH, I get about 21.5; driving 55MPH, I get about 22.5; Pullng my trailer, I get 12.5 to 13 at about 55 MPH. ALSO, my Cougar 5th wheel, from the factory, has a 1525 lb. pin weight. I didn't check the weight after the dealer filled the propane, but, I thought my F250 would show some lowering in the rear when the trailer weight was lowered after hitching. I didn't see it move even 1/8 inch. I watched closely because my Ford dealer was encouraging me to get the F350 with a larger payload capacity. Well, I didn't need it. One Happy Ford Owner!! I'm happy to hear this! Just last night I bought a 2012 F-250 Lariet 4x4 CC to pull a 5th wheel with. I actually did the trailer shopping first (I previously owned an 04 F-350 Lariet dually that I loved!). I joined an RV consumer's web site that doesn't accept any advertising from anybody. They're much like the consumer reports of the RV industry and go by owners response, warranty claims, their own inspections of each unit, etc. My goal was a four season (that means it had to have the heavier insulation, dual pane windows, heated holding tanks, etc. to protect it when it's down below freezing) 5th wheel in the $30k-$35k range that has the highest ratings in reliability and value (they judge both). That came out to be the 2013 Fox Mountain 235RLS (built by Northwood). This trailer has a total dry weight of 7,020 lbs.(I'm guessing approx. 8,000 lbs by the time the batteries, water tank full, propane full and all of our stuff) with a hitch weight of 1,410 lbs. and a payload capacity of 1,480 lbs. and can be found on the net for around $30k but the MSRP is $36,401. So, I'm about ready for my retirement and looking forward to this all season 5th wheel (want to do Yellowstone in the winter, watch the wolves play in the snow....hunt for food, etc.).
