ORCM
Does the Electronic Locker require the truck to be in 4 Wheel drive to be engaged? If so, has anyone tried to over ride it so you can lock it in 2 wheel? Paul.
jmmec
Yes, you must be in 4WD (either 4Hi or 4Lo) on the "standard F150s" to engage the locker. The Raptor is a special case and you can be in 2WD and have the elocker engaged. I don't know if it is possible to override the behavior on the trucks that must be in 4WD. spunkymonky
But when it's not locked it's an open diff. Is that right? No limited slip? I guess the traction control would take over?
jmmec
But when it's not locked it's an open diff. Is that right? No limited slip? I guess the traction control would take over? Yep - open diff when not locked, and traction control helps. Edited January 29, 2011 by jmmec
xtrer
Yep - open diff when not locked, and traction control helps. This is why I love this site - you get more information than anywhere else. I recently oreder an 2011 XTR - with the limited slip - after the fact I wondered if I should have ordered the "off-road" option. I don't go rock climbing, or any "major" off-roading. That being said, I am now sure (for my needs) I ordered the right option. Since we have alot of snow in the winters, to me - limited slip would be much better than on open rear end. This means FX4 owners may find themselves putting the truck into 4 wheel drive more often - does it not? Wonder why Ford didn't put the same option as the Raptor on every rear end on the F150's - allowing you to lock it in 2 wheel drive.
