Ford is rumored to be testing a 5.3 liter version of the current 5.0, which makes some sense. There's also a rumored 5.8-liter version of the current GT-500 engine that may be in the works. I foresee Ford handling the lower trim powertrains much like they are planning to do with the Explorer and Edge and make the more efficient, albeit less powerful EcoBoost 4 cylinder engine a cost option over the continued base 3.7 V6.
