Chevrolet Sonic Forum - In an effort to get back into the compact market, Chevrolet has been aggressively pushing the new Chevrolet Sonic forward with accessories and niche models. Just a few days ago and prior to the North American International Auto Show here in Detroit, MI., Chevrolet confirmed that the Sonic RS would in fact be produced toward the end of the 2012 calendar year. More about the Sonic RS here.

Word leaking out from reliable sources at GM is that the Sonic Boom has also been given the green light for production; although, in a tamed down version from the concept. The Chevrolet Sonic Boom was introduced at SEMA in Las Vegas this past November. The Sonic "Boom" was introduced as a sound system based concept that delivers high performance of an auditory type via the famous Stillwarter, OK. based firm, Kicker. More about the Sonic Boom here.

Aside from the Sonic Boom's turbo charged engine, it also featured performance seating and a racing inspired flat bottom steering wheel and items from Chevrolet's Z-Spec group, such as sport pedals and unique trim.

On the exterior side, the Sonic Boom received Z-Spec parts, including ground effects, a different grille and rear spoiler and larger, 19-inch wheels.

GM spokesman, Chris Perry said that the “Sonic is leading Chevy into its second century and to new markets around the world." He continued that “Chevrolet has the opportunity to reach a new group of customers with Sonic, and this concept speaks to their interests.”

After conducting a check with the U.S. Trademark office, they did confirm that Chevrolet applied for the Sonic Boom trademark on 14 December 2011.
