Just a thought about the D3 cars and the Panther car.

Since we know the 500 supports awd, wouldn't it be possible to create another D3 car with a redesigned front suspension and lengthened engine bay to support a proper RWD set up? I mean, all it needs is a strong rear axle and work done to the floor pan to support a 6R75W transmission. I'm not talking about replacing the current D3 with a new RWD one. I just think this would be a good idea since Ford currently doesn't have a RWD sedan platform that is affordably capable of replacing the panther. I think a D3 derieved basis for a RWD chasis could potentially work. A Reworked front suspension and lenghted engine bay to support a longitudially mounted motor and a reworked floor plan and inteiror to support a RWD based transmission and drive line. It would also more than likely require a new 8.8 rear end with a new IRS. I doubt whatever rear end the 500 has would be strong enough to adequately handel a modular V8. An independent 8.8 rear suspension should do the trick.

^^^ I believe Ford worked on a solution like this. there were rumors here on BON that Ford is working on an E3 platform that is based on the D3, but is RWD .. however not much was mentioned on it for several months, and I would assume it is a dead project at this point - it is possible they either ran into some problem, not easily resolved, or a flexible platform based off of the mustang platform was easier and/or better.
