EddieMo
Hello all, I'm in need of some assistance. I own a 2008 Expedition EL Eddie Bauer with 129k miles on the clock. I ordered, what I thought was a complete set of shocks and struts, springs from FORD.com,,,,,supposedly OEM. This being the second set of shocks/struts I've installed since owning the truck without any issues until this new set. Since I installed the setup on all four corners, my ride went from a pleasant, compliant, supple, float down the road feel, to a jarring, "feel every pebble and avoid every imperfection" stiff as a damn board ride. I've gone back and forth with Ford.com, to Ford customer service sending me to every local dealership for them to "check the ride". Of course, none of those service techs said there was anything wrong with the way my Expy rode....You've got to be kidding me. The minute they went over curve from their parking lot to the road, it should have jolted them and many more hundred times during their 10-minute test ride. Well, here I'm looking for a solution. I'm not looking to necessarily go OEM again after this experience, but I need my supple, complaint, cruiser ride back I’ve been accustomed to with my Expy. I have access to lifts, power tools, etc. etc....I'm just a bit burnt now that I'm so accustomed to keeping my rides with OEMs to keep the original feel, that anything besides OEM is a gamble for me. I also have access to a spring compressor (the non-lethal type), but I'd prefer to simply purchase the setup already put together, so I can save a few hours to rip out what I received Ford.com and install the new stuff, as this is my driver to a from work. I'm not looking to break the bank, but I'm also not looking the going dirt cheap, I want the quality to last me a few years.. I don't do any offroading, but I do pull a small trailer or very small boat from time to time...I don't need any lifted kits or craziness, just my comfy ride back.... The Mrs. doesn't even ride with me on the weekends anymore because she still accuses me of slamming the Expy for a lowrider feel. Not the case... At the end of the day, I believe I was sent thicker diameter springs made for another type of vehicle because I’ve checked the serial/part numbers on the shocks and struts and they are what’s recommended. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
akirby
You shouldn’t need new springs - put the old ones back in and see what happens and compare them. Also, Ford.com doesn’t sell parts, so where did you actually buy them?

So, now I'm on Ebay looking for used OEMs with reasonable mileage to at least try to regain some semblance of what I had with the original coils. EddieMo
This is definitely an old conversation that I have to rehash. Can I used the standard duty suspension rear coil spring for a 119” wheel base on a 131” standard duty suspension. Are they interchangeable?. I’m assuming not, do to the extra weight of the extra 12” on the EL rear end. But who knows and can confirm that for me.
