Ford C-Max and Cross Max

We catch the facelifted Ford C-Max testing

With the Ford S-Max now in production and the release of the Ford Mondeo Concept at the Paris Motor Show, the Ford Focus C-Max’ facelift falls right in line with the Ford four-year model cycle. The facelift Ford has planned for the C-Max is not major though. The rear will most likely stay as it is, the front however will include a new grill, bumper and headlamps and if any new engines will debut it would most likely be a diesel. Ford is trying to create a family of people carriers and the resemblance is strikingly clear already when comparing the new Galaxy to these spy photos of the C-Max. An educated guess would be that only the fog lights will be different. When the face-lifted C-Max will be introduced is not clear as of yet, but Geneva seems to be the best bet.

Much later will come the Ford Cross Max, the production version of the compact SUV the company had a first concept of on display in the French capital some days ago. Despite the extraordinary design of the Iosis X concept shown in Paris, the real machine will be tamed down to become the make’s family SUV, pointing straight at VW’s new Tiguan to go into production around the same time. “There has been a lot of speculation about Ford producing a compact cross-over or SUV,†said Ford of Europe boss John Fleming. “The Iosis X sends a very strong message that we will be entering this market and our new model will be stylish and individual.†Expect the final version to appear at the Frankfurt Motor Show next autumn, with sales kicking off early in 2008. Prices will start from around 24 000 Euros.

Thanks for the update on FofE.

I wonder if FofNA and FofE could share a compact crossover vehicle. The compact would probably be a touch smaller than the Escape/Maverick, and could replace it wholesale in the US. It would create a bit more "space" between the Escape & Edge and (finally!) be a new, up-to-date redo that Ford needs in its compact SUV offering. (I'm rather disappointed with the 2008 Mariner - change what is fine and leave alone what needs to be changed.)

Just a thought. Obviously, "starting at 24 000 Euros" would need to come down to the $19K range for the US market.

I think Ford is seriously considering dropping the MSRPs of the Escape/Mariner to get them inline with transaction prices. I would imagine that the transaction price of the Escape/Mariner is a bit below the RAV4, even though MSRPs are similar. Starting price for the Escape should be in the mid-high $17s, not $19k

Bump the Escape/Mariner down a bit, and you maybe do a cuteute on the B platform and you're well covered from B-C-CD-D.
