Special Offer denied by Dealer

Recommended Posts

I was trying to pick up an Escape Hybrid by the end of the year and I had received a special offer ($1000) in the mail several days ago from Ford that was slanted to an F150, but it said it could be used on everything except a Shelby, an Edge, or the Harley Davidson specials. There was no exclusion for financing. So I thought I would apply it to an Escape hybrid. Good timing from marketing. They even had a deal on financing.

I went in for one vehicle (on the internet list and verified by the internet salesman) and when I arrived the dealer said he made mistake when I had called for an appointment and it had been sold the night before. He found another one in the back lot (which turned out to be at another dealer quite few miles away), but could not guarantee it to be there Tuesday (tomorrow) and then he said he would not honor the special offer I received in the mail from Ford. He said most of the special offers did not apply to Mustangs or Escape Hybrids (did not say that on the form).

That took the wind out of my sails for that purchase. I was hoping to get a tax credit by the end of the year, but I guess the Ford infrastructure just could not get it together.

I was trying to be Blue, but maybe there are other reasons why ford is not doing well.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with a Ford dealership, but if you haven't given up completely you might want to try the BOF: X-Plan Forum. Here is a little more info from Ford's website about the discount program.

Bad dealers have deterred a couple of my friends from Ford as well. Anyone know if the Way Forward includes a dealership section?

Good luck.

yeah, ... some of the dealers are big problem -- unscrupulous... that dealer was just plain lying. It's beocme clear with the GT500 that there is a wide range of dealer scruples out there. The number who have renegged on written deals is sad. It sullies Ford good name and the names of good dealers who play by the rules and value repeat customers and have a sense of community. You don't see Japanese car co's letting their dealers play such games -- they must have much tighter franchise agreements than the big three. Maybe just due to the fact that the agreements go back much further. I imagine it's virtually impossible to change 'em once they're in place -- especially in the current Ford economic situation. Hopefully dealer BS will get address as Ford 'recovers' ..sure hope so.

You don't live in SE Michigan do you? Let me tell you a story about three "little" dealerships by the name of Victory. Now Victory isn't anyone's last name, its just the franchise "brand". There's Victory Honda and Toyota in Plymouth, MI, and Victory Nissan in Macomb, MI. These guys are bastards from the time you come in for a test drive until the the time you sit down and discuss your "deal". I had this asshole, "Reggie" lets call him, try to pull some shit on me when I was in the Victory Honda dealership test driving anything I could get my hands on.

He took my "trade" a 97 Taurus to let the "used car manager" appraise it for me, which at the time I didn't really care about, I was being nice. So I test drove about 4 cars and decided that I didn't like how I fit in them, and they're kind of pricey. I told him that I could get an F-150 for $99 a month with very little down over at the local Ford dealer. I've never quite seen a man turn this shade of purple before, then he told me that I wasn't getting my keys back to my Taurus and I had to find a ride home.

Well anyway.... after threatening to call the cops a couple of times, he let me go home in my Taurus. I've subsequently been to the other two Victory dealerships and found that this must be in the training material because it happened there too.

It really has NOTHING to do with what brand the car is, assholes IS assholes....

Thanks for the insight... I guess a$$holes abound everywhere.

I would have called the police anyway -- that was grandtheft and misdemenor harrasment (at least in NY State it would be). That's when cell-phone with camera & memo recorder comes in handy ;-)

Hope it worked out for you - an F150 for $99/mo is an incredible deal!

Story ends with a good ending.....

Thanks to the Blue Oval Forum, a forum member that was willing to share and X-plan pin, and a different dealer, things went smoothly.

Made a call to Ted Britt Ford (Northern Virginia), identified the the Escape hybrid I wanted over an email, got the X plan, the available $1000 rebate, the 1.9% financing and the $1000 rebate card that I got in the mail form Ford. I am now able to get my tax credit for buying the hybrid.

The dealer does make the difference.......
