  1. If she can't work the job on the floor Monday thru Friday, then she should be "no-work-available" for OT. That's how we do it!
  2. We have lots of platforms, stairs, etc, that have been made by our Millwrights and Welders. A lot of the welds look like they came out of a shotgun. Hell, they even built a railcar unload building not once, but twice (wind blew the first one down because they didn't install any wind braces, duh). If anything needs to have certified welds, it won't be done in house. I think our only welder who is certified now has an appointed job. Don't get me wrong, we do have a few very good welders, it's just they are not all certified.
  3. What exactly are the Welders welding that needs to be certified. If it's not a high pressure vessel or piping (150 psi), it doesn't need a certified Welder.
  4. Because welders make more an hour than millwrights.
  5. I haven't seen any buyout numbers yet, but they are to post them on Tuesday. A letter from the union passed out last week stated "the the Buy-Out packages will be staggered based on company needs", starting January 1. It also said, "the names of the members that management has approved for separation will be posted outside of Labor Relations on Tuesday December 12th."
  6. I have kids in the Woodhaven-Brownstown School district. I've had no problems. But, if you have kids that are going to go to elementary school, be sure that your not in the boundary for Gudith Elementary. It is the least desirable school to send your kids to. Also, part of Woodhaven goes to a different school district, Gibralter Schools. I think it is the section of Woodhaven that is south of Van Horn. Parts of Brownstown are in three different school districts, Woodhaven, Gibralter, and Taylor. What I'm trying to say is, the school districts boundary lines don't always follow the cities boundary lines.
  7. We were told at our COA vote back in August, that "Skilled Trades will focus on core skills of their respective trade keeping with the Collective Bargaining Agreement" That means, nothing will change until the new contract in September.
  8. You're not forced tomorrow?
  9. Here at Woodhaven, we had a town hall meeting yesterday, and the plant manager said they must cut an additional 325 heads. If they don't get enough buyouts, then they will have an ILO. With people on ILO, there won't be any flowback into Woodhaven. I'm sure other plants were told the same thing. So far, only about 90 people have signed up for a buyout.
  10. Gary's Catering has been here since our cafeteria closed this past summer. I wouldn't eat off of it every day, but it's nice to have it here when needed. I usually bring in my own lunch.
  11. Security handles the confined space entry permit and verifies that both the attendant and the people entering the confined space have had confined space training. Ert is never present at the job.
  12. 1. If I recall, I think he works at Monroe stamping, so be nice to him. He could be your partner some day at Woodhaven. 2. Name is not Mike, try again.
  13. Actually, if I remember right, it was 3 electricians from midnights, 4 from days, & 1 from afternoon shift. We run production on all three shifts, so morning start-ups are not much of an issue.
  14. Woodhaven stamping had about 20 people take buyouts today. Mostly electricians, millwrights, and die makers, plus two cleaners. Word is there may be about 80 more buyouts offered in the fall. So far, they have no plans on replacing any of the people who are taking the buyouts.
  15. Was told there will be a roach coach for days and afternoon shifts only. Midnight shift will have to bring a lunch, so you're out of luck Bio. You could always come back to days, Bigbird could always use the help.
  16. To start with, we are NOT closing! The company wanted to reduce the workforce at the beginning of the year. The union was able to talk the company into having an inverse seniorty layoff while working on getting buyouts offered. The reason we had buyouts offered are because we are in D2 with the company over some health & safety issues. The buyout offers were announced in early April. We also have about 90 more people who wanted a buyout, but didn't make the cut. Word is, they may give it to them at a later date, and maybe backfill the positions with people who are laid-off or in GEN from another plant.
  17. No. 8% of our workforce took a buyout, effective May 1. 100 production and 31 trades.
  18. To get the Ford employee 25% discount on Ford parts, call 866-472-7878.
  19. Don't spend it all on crack!
  20. Last time I looked, we had trades sitting in GEN pool. Just walk past the MP&L room, you'll see them sitting there.
