  1. Ford hasn't updated the Ranger in over 15 years other than cosmetic changes. The F150 is always evolving and improving.

    I'm guessing the reason behind their decision about the Ranger is because the small pick up market is collapsing and shrinking. Even Toyota and GM sold many more small pickups in the 90's than they do today. The only way I can see small pickups making a comeback is if gas prices double and stay there. This would be bad because Ford would have no replacement in sight and have to compete in this market with a pickup that is on the same platform that made its debut in 1983.

  2. Hmmm. maybe produce the GR-1 and call it the Thunderbird. Ford's sports cars can be a heritage styled Mustang and an ass kicking modern T-Bird sold in limited numbers. No one could ever complain about underpowered T-Birds again.

  3. This clearly proves that there is no governmental protection for the domestics against foreign competition: The fact that BMW, Mercedes and Audi are doing well is because they make good cars which are desirable;

    If govt protection had anything to do with the lack of success of foreign cars in the JDM then the moment Lexus made an entry the Germans would have been forcefully eviccted from Japan!

    The Detroiters tried to sell their ghastly products in Japan and fell flat on their faces; instead of giving credit where it is due they were quick to blame the govt for erecting protectionist barriers when the truth was far simpler! ie that the detroiter's products were simply not good enough!

    I think the so called theory of governmental protection that the detroiters so love to propound is now finally laid to rest!

    look here:

    West Germany sold 97,750 cars in Japan. Japan sold over 1,000,000 cars in Europe. Although they are doing better than the American makes, I'd hardly say that the Europeans have a balanced trade with Japan. Also luxury makes sell better with high tariffs than would lower priced makes.

  4. C-Max and C1 Focus- yes, I think they would be good Mercury cars. I like the Mariner and would leve that alone. (It sells well in Europe - the Cosmopolitan, GQ, Metrosexuals and urban sophisticant center of the universe as the Ford Maverick) The Fiesta would be a better Ford than a Mercury because Ford should have the least expensive car if you plan to push Mercury up market where American yuppies are.

  5. I thought that Falcon was cool when I first saw it too, but now... Other than the cool headlights it is a dull design that's past its prime. It looks as modern as the 1992 Taurus. I like the power, the RWD and most other things about it on paper (I've never seen one in person so I can't comment on how well it drives), but that style probably should be kicked to the curb.

  6. As far as people liking the Chalanger and Camaro styling better than the Mustang, remember the Mustang has been out a couple of years now and we saw it on the auto show circuit a year before that and the Mustang show car a year before that. I think the Mustang style, which is more conservative, will wear better than the other two cars. This is the way it was in the past.

    Front and Rear Fenders look different also...besides the ports on top

    You're right! The lines of the fenders don't match the rest of the car. Look at the 3rd pic down. The front looks more wavy while the doors are the current Montego's lines. This may be the 2007 reskin. I hope they get rid of the fender holes. It is a rip off of Buick.

  8. This whole plant closing makes me sick. I know what it is like to be downsized... twice! Its tough to read this knowing that many of you on this board are going to lose their jobs. I only wish all of you can pull through this and be stronger in the end. 8 of my nine cars I've owned were Fords. I've had nothing but from 1987. I have driven many cars and I chose Ford 8 out of 9 times. I am proud to own my '05 Mustang and I hope to buy many more in the future. I can tell a lot of pride and love went into that car and I thank you.

    To Management: I hope there is a much better plan after this. No one ever retreated into victory.

  9. The name is pronounced "Jee-lee"?!!! Isn't that how the Ben Afflek/Jennifer Lopez movie Gigli was pronounced? I hope this car has the same fate.

    This car comes from the same China that said last month they would nuke us if we tried to stop an invasion of Taiwan. China is so openly hostile to the US and is quickly becoming a powerhouse. If this continues the world will be back to the same cold war of the 20th century - only this time with a much more powerful rival.
