  1. Sounds like Honda's response to a lot of problems......in other words "screw you" customer. Sounds very similar to all of the problems with the Ridgeline (missing welds, water leaks, slipping trans, peeling paint, creaks and groans, rattles, powertrain hesitation, starting problems, clunking, .....) and the typical customer service provided by Honda.
  2. Actually bec, your  Honda CR-V was made in Japan, not in the USA. I thought you only buy American made cars???? You're not trying to mislead us again about where your car was built are you?
  3. I agree, Honda seriously errored in the design. The fact that the fires are still being reported on the Honda CR-V more than a year after the issue was supposedly resolved is troubling.
  4. Actually the CVPI was tested (and passed) at 75 mph. 75MPH
  5. Wow, a "mere" 52,000 sales behind for the month IF you don't count the 25,000 Mazdas that were sold. The gap is 77,172. To put that into perspective, DCX would have to buy Hyundai and Kia and Mitsubishi and Isuzu, then they would actually match Ford sales. Or perhaps they can convince Thrify rent-a-cars will to accept an additional 77,172 Chryslers each month from those lots around Detroit where they are being stored!
  6. Chrysler's sales figures are pretty much meaningless since they are the top fleet seller of all manufacturers in terms of percentages. Chrysler's figures are so distorted by their continued dumping of mainline vehicles into fleets the sales numbers are almost worthless.
  7. As predicted here on BON, Honda's "fix" for the CR-V fires has not worked. Fires continue to be reported even after Honda told the Government they had an effective "fix" for the problem. This does not appear to be the case as Honda CR-V fires continue to be reported. For those unfamiliar with the problem, Honda changed the exhaust design for this engine and moved the hottest part of the exhaust to just under the oil filter. The end result is predictable to everyone (Except Honda engineers I guess) Here are some more reports that were included in last month's update. Summary: DRIVING DOWN THE ON RAMP ONTO I-95 MY 2005 CRV SE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE LAST TIME I SERVICED THE CAR WAS LAST WEEK FOR AN OIL CHANGE. SINCE THEN I HAVE DRIVEN OVER 300 MILES WITH NO PROBLEMS OR WARNING SIGNS. THE CAR IS NOT TOTALED AND I AM DEALING WITH THE INSURANCE. *JB MY WIFE WAS DRIVING A 2005 HONDA CRV AND THE CAR STARTING SMOKING AND LEAKING OIL. THE HONDA DEALER STATED THAT AN OIL CHANGE WAS IMPROPERLY DONE. HOWEVER, I HAVE HEARD THAT THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING TO OTHER PEOPLE AND WANTED TO REPORT IT SO IT WAS ON FILE AT THE NHTSA.. *AK
  8. QUOTE Did anyone notice the Fusion beats the Accord 0-30 and 0-45 and basically ties the Accord 0-60 and 1/4 mile? I noticed that as well, and like I said so much for that 'lowly' Duratec 30. I'm going to venture to say that when the Duratec 35 does make its debut it will be right up there with the Camry (especially considering the fact that the Fusion is lugging around approx. 200 lbs less in comparison to that vehicle). ==================== Besides beating the Accord 0-30 and 0-45, and a virtual tie 0-60, the Duratec also was quieter at idle and got better mileage than the Accord. MILEAGE: In fact, the Duratec scored the best mileage of all tested, 22.6 MPG for Fusion vs 21.4 for Accord, 19.6 for Hyundai and 20.4 for Yoda. HONDA'S "POOR" BRAKING RESULTS: On the braking tests, can you imagine what Edmunds would have said if it were the Fusion that received a POOR rating for braking like the Accord did? They would have been all over the Fusion for that. How many cars today smoke their brakes like the Honda did? "By the third stop from 60 mph, the brakes were fading and beginning to smoke. "
  9. Did anyone notice the comments on the Accord, which received a POOR rating for the brakes? ACCORD Braking Comments: A noticeable amount of tire scratch coming into the cabin, as if the car was braking on a gravel road. By the third stop from 60 mph, the brakes were fading and beginning to smoke. Did anyone notice the Fusion beats the Accord 0-30 and 0-45 and basically ties the Accord 0-60 and 1/4 mile?
  10. Ever since the strut-popping incident at Edmunds, and the side airbag explosion while driving on a dirt road, everyone knows you should never drive a Ridgeline on dirt! Too dangerous, what was the first guy thinking! As for the second fire, I can't tell if he was driving on dirt when his Ridgeline burst into flames.
  11. Make: HONDA Model: RIDGELINE Type: TRUCK Year: 2006 Complaint Number: 10146750 Summary: FIRE IN ENGINE BAY OF NEW HONDA RIDGELINE, DEBRIS CAUGHT BETWEEN EXHAUST AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER. MAJOR DAMAGE. BOUGHT 2ND. RIDGELINE. 2 MINOR EPISODES OF BURNING SMELL WHILE USING ON DIRT ROADS. THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE! *JB Make: HONDA Model: RIDGELINE Type: TRUCK Year: 2006 Complaint Number: 10144782 Summary: WE GOT OUR RIDGELINE ON MARCH 12 A FEW DAYS THAT THEY HAD BEEN OUT, ONLY THE SECOND THAT THE DUVAL HONDA HAD SOLD. AND WE HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT LOVE THAT TRUCK. ON FRIDAY 11/25/05 ON MY WAY TO WORK, I AHD BEEN DRIVING ABOUT 5-8 MINTUES AND THEN I SMELT SOMETHING A LITTLE STRANGE.........COMING OUT OF THE AC VENT. I TURNED THE HEATER OFF......THE SMELL OF SMOKE STARTED TO GET HEAVIER AND HEAVIER. I LOOKED INTO THE VENT AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS SMOKE AND FIRE BILLOWING INSIDE.....NOT SURE WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM...I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK, CALLED FIRE/RESCUE, AND BEGAN TO GET MOST OF THE BELONGINGS THAT I COULD. THE TRUCK WAS FULLY INVOLVED BY TIME FIRE/RESCUE ARRIVED ON SCENE. I MUST SAY THAT, BACK IN SEPTMBER I NOTICED THAT THE RADIO WHICH IS STILL STOCK WAS WIRED INCORRECTLY, I MENTIONED IT THE LAST TIME THAT I TOOK THE BABY IN FOR SERVICING. THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE DASH OUT AND HAVE IT RE-WIRED THE CORRECT WAY. AND THAT IT WOULD BE AN ALL DAY AFFAIR, I HAVENT HAD THE TIME TO HAVE THAT DONE, AND MY DEALER DOESNT OFFER LOANER CARS. AM I SAYING THAT THIS IS THE REASON THAT THIS HAPPENED? I AM NOT SURE. AS ANYONE HAD ANYTHING SIMULAR?? *NM Reminds me of the Honda CRV fire problem.
  12. I always get a kick at comparing the dismal towing numbers for the new 2007 Tahoe. The mid-size Explorer tows almost the equivalent weight as the full-size Tahoe. LOL 7700/7300 Oh, and the V8 Explorer comes with a real life 6 speed tranny. Heck the Ranger has had a 5 speed auto in it since 1997, thats almost a decade! I guess its the lack of low end torque of the Chevy engine that adds to this poor performance. I also guess thats why the modular engine received Wards 10 Best engine Award in 2006, and no GM V-8s were on the list. Ford Motor Co. 4.6L SOHC V-8 Associating this spectacular engine so closely with the Mustang is both boon and curse. It is an advantage because the Mustang owes its runaway success to its excellent, new-generation V-8. Without it, enthusiasts would not have bought the 'Stang as the real deal, regardless of the car's brilliant sheet metal. But the engine's close affiliation with the Mustang discounts this outstanding modular V-8's keen work in its other high-volume home, the Explorer/Mercury Mountaineer SUVs. The lightened flywheel encourages exploring the upper tach range, and the 4,500-rpm torque peak underscores the modular 4.6L SOHC V-8's newfound ability to rev to places the old 4.9L pushrod V-8 never visited. Plus, this engine is perfectly happy to run on regular unleaded gasoline. No auto maker provides a more power-packed V-8 at a more accessible price than Ford's brilliant 4.6L SOHC V-8. =============== Speaking of the whole Chevy driver thing, does anyone remember GM's defense in a lawsuit where they presented the demographics between Ford and Chevy drivers? GM argued in court that Chevy trucks had more accidents than Ford because the demographics of Chevy vs Ford drivers showed Chevy drivers were less educated, were poorer, and were more likely to drive drunk. That was GM's lawyers presenting this information in a court of law!
  13. LINK FORD EXPLORER, SPORT TRAC AND MERCURY MOUNTAINEER EARN HIGHEST IIHS FRONTAL CRASH TEST RATING The 2006 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer, and the 2007 Ford Sport Trac, earn the highest frontal offset crash test rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. All three vehicles previously earned top NHTSA crash test ratings, taking five-stars in both frontal and side crash ratings for drivers and passengers. All three vehicles offer a suite of 10 advanced safety technologies as standard equipment, including Ford Motor Company’s AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control (RSC ®). DEARBORN, Mich., Mar. 30, 2006 - Building on a legacy of proven safety, the 2006 Ford Explorer, Sport Trac and Mercury Mountaineer now add the highest frontal offset crash test rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to their collective trophy case. That case is getting crowded, as all three vehicles recently earned the government's highest five-star crash test ratings for frontal and side impacts for drivers and passengers. Mercury Mountaineer “We're pleased that the IIHS has recognized all three vehicles with its highest possible frontal crash test rating,†says Sue Cischke, vice president, Environmental and Safety Engineering. “In addition to more refinement and increased capability, they offer a new package of advanced safety features.†With 10 advanced safety innovations as standard equipment, Explorer, Mountaineer and Sport Trac offer the most active and passive safety features in their class. Four of these are new adaptive technologies specifically designed for Ford’s stringent internal safety targets. “Ford Motor Company is building on a legacy of introducing industry-first safety technologies that help provide increased protection in accidents,†Cischke said. “These vehicles offer impressive handling and braking combined with AdvanceTrac® with industry-exclusive Roll Stability Control.†Explorer Sport Trac Unlike any other system in the world, Roll Stability Control features roll-rate sensing, offering assistance to the driver in maintaining vehicle control during extreme maneuvers. The system automatically engages countermeasures to help the driver maintain maximum control and further reduce the risk of rollover. “In the case of an accident, all three offer enhanced rollover side-impact protection, and four new adaptive safety technologies that help tailor frontal-impact protection based on crash severity, occupant size and safety belt usage.†Ford's occupant classification system helps tailor air-bag deployment for increased protection. A horizontal stroking adaptive steering column adds to the safety package to further help protect customers. In the event of a side impact, all three vehicles feature standard side-impact air bags for the driver and front passenger and available Safety Canopy® side air curtains that deploy in certain side-impact collisions or if an impending rollover is detected.
  14. Honda transmissions have earned quite a poor record for reliability. It is highly likely that the replacement transmission is a refurbished unit.
  15. What's the web site where you found the '07 500 ordering guide? The site I was using doesn't have the 500 on it yet. 07 ordering guide LINK
  16. Job 1 for the 2007 is 5/01/06. Your dealer should already have the order guide. Initial order acceptance for '07s is 3/27/06. The comestic changes will occur next year, Spring 2007, as an 08 model.
  17. "Still, after three weeks of back-to-back test drives — of the sedan, the coupe and the hybrid — I remain unenthusiastic about the new Civic." "Yet the Civic didn't bowl me over, largely because I had to work too hard to drive it. In an effort to transform the car from strait-laced to snazzy, designers gave it a space-age body and high-tech dashboard. Both changes raised serious visibility issues: I found the Civic distracting to drive and awkward to park." "The Civic is a bit slow off the line and struggles on steep hills." LINK
  18. The 'new' F-150 means the curent 2004+ platform. The 2007+ Expedition will share that platform.
  19. The new Expedition gets the 6 speed this summer, and it will be built on the T1 platform that the new F-150 uses...so I expect the 150 will get the 6 speed at some point, 07? 08?
  20. The Fit isn't competitive in the emissions levels department. Anyone who is concerned about the environment wqould be shocked to here the Fit is only rated LEV-2 by the California Air Resources Board (Tier 2 / Bin 5 for Feds) This is the least stringent of the Phase II standards. Too bad its not a cleaner buring vehicle like a ULEV, or SULEV, or PZEV like a lot of the Domestic and European models on the road.
  21. Were you working at the Acura dealership when the Acura TLs had the vibration problems? The repeated problems experienced by Car and Driver with their Acura was apparently not unique as you indicated. Motor Trend reported repeated problems with their Acura also.
  22. hey grbeck - You used to at least do your "test drives" at the auto show..... Now you seem to be doing test drives in your mind for vehicles that won't be on the road for 2 years...? You are one amazing guy! You amazing talent sounds almost as good as Consumer Reports magical ability to "predict" reliability. p.s. Does Acura supply duct tape with all of their RLs now to hold the sun roof closed? (see below) I saw a long term road test of the RL in the April CAR and DRIBBLE rag-azine. The just under $50,000 RL's first trip back to the dealer was to fix a stuck sunroof in the open position. While at the deqaler to install new motor for sunroof, 2 recall services were taken care of. 600 miles later, it was back to the dealer to fix the right front window and side view mirror as BOTH stopped working. Two thousand miles later the sunroof came down with the same disease. 5000 miles later, back to the dealer to fix BOTH side view mirrors AND BOTH power outlets. Then at 33,000 miles, the left rear headrest wouldn't stay up, (maybe viagra?) and the power outlets had the same disease AGAIN! While at the dealer for these items, the dealer took care of THREE recalls reprogramming Onstar, AcuraLink and and the transmission for an upshift problem. In 40,000 miles the car went to the dealer for 5 scheduled services and EIGHT unscheduled repairs.
  23. We're not allowed to critique Honda and we must abide by the double standard that allies to Japanese cars. you're right about the interiors.....
  24. No one gives a damn what you think about this because this car isn't even for sale to you, or anyone in the US oh, but the car is available to me. Perhaps it is you who should take your head out of Honda's ass. It is always so humorous to see how you go to such great lengths to support Honda, even on such a horrible badge engineering job as this. If this was any other car company you would be criticising the horrible badge engineering that is so obvious to anyone who is not a hard-core Honda supporter. Can you imagine Lexus putting a Lexus symbol on the hood of an unaltered Corolla????????
