Want to replace a thermostat on a 2012 MKZ with a 3.5 liter engine. Some sites show 2 gaskets required. Is that correct?
Have replaced many thermostats in Ford, GM, and Chrysler vehicles and have never seen one requiring more than 1 gasket.

If 2 are required where exactly do they go?

Don't want to drain coolant and open up the thermostat housing and be short a gasket.

I don’t have the answer - but if you buy the parts at your local Ford or Lincoln dealer, using your VIN, you will be assured of getting the right answer and parts.

Have been proceeding through Repurchase process for 2021 Aviator.  Signed and emailed agreement 7/30/21, then no response.  On 8/2 and 8/3 tried calling 877-477-1024 over six times, finally a person Will answered, said he couldn't direct me to my contact because all phones/email are down.  What is this?  We were supposed to go to dealer this Friday to complete the repurchase.   Has Lincoln been hit with ransom ware or something.  Trying to call again today, just hold music, won't take a message.

Have you tried calling management at the dealership you are scheduled with this Friday?

One of the cool features of the GT speedometer was that the needle and and at the end of the indicator would be green while driving on electric.   I noticed after a software update for the recall that's gone and its always the amber color.  Anyone else notice that subtle change.  I thought that feature was cool and my daughter would always notice (early back seat-driver) when we were driving and it was just on electric by the fact the speedometer needle was green.  Anyone else with GT notice that change?

Since you did not authorize the change, which is not related to the safety recall software update, I would return to the dealer and request that they return the feature that you like (and paid for with the car).

I’m simply amazed that Lincoln would let this ruin their name. I’m currently sitting at a dealership waiting to get this door issue fixed. 2004 miles on my 2021 Aviator and not only did the passenger button stop working, it broke lose and started rattling around in the door. I had to pull it out and duct tape it to the arm rest since service departments are back up for two weeks. Also, I have brake squeal in the rear that sounds like someone learning to play a squeaky violin. This might just be dirt but I’ve never had this happen before on a brand new vehicle. I really hope this doesn’t continue happening like what I’m hearing from others. Should’ve done my research before agreeing to $75k vehicle with Kia quality.

Kia ranks higher than Lincoln in the 2021 J.D.  Power dependability study:  https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2021-us-vehicle-dependability-study-vds

I think it’s entirely reasonable to be frustrated with the lack of quality seen in Ford vehicles and talk about that when a new recall or quality drops seemingly every week.  Their warranty costs are $2 billion dollars higher than GM and Farley has stated it’s a priority of his to get that fixed and bring those costs down.  Again nobody has dismissed that this happens to other manufacturers.  Not a single person.

To use a sports analogy, when your team sucks or has a bad season, do you just ignore it and attack anyone that points it out?  Do you go on and on about how 4 other teams were just as bad or worse or how the same thing happened to them?  Is it MORE frustrating when it’s your team?  No you talk about the issues because it’s relevant.

Ford has a lot of good going for it.  The BS, the Bronco, most of the F150, the Mach E, and Lincoln builds some very nice vehicles these days.  But Ford is also having a lot of quality issues and it’s ok to talk about it.  It doesn’t mean that people think only Ford has issues or that people’s only intent is to shame Ford.  Lastly if you don’t like the topic just move on.

    You made some excellent points.

Am I the only one who yawns at recalls in the 1000 range? It’s not great but some of you need to realize that there has never been and never will be perfect in auto manufacturing. I’m glad they are being proactive but it’s a double edge sword. PR isn’t that great but getting ahead of issues is better. Would you rather have them have 10 tiny recalls or 1 giant one with millions affected?

    Or - no recalls?

There is not a current culture of quality with Ford.

Recently, there have been safety recalls for the 2021 Bronco Sport (2), the 20221 Mach-E, tens of thousands of 2021 F-150 trucks, some Super Duty trucks, and vehicles built but not placed in the delivery pipeline because they are being stored for “quality checks” (translation:  something wasn’t manufactured correctly).

Ford and the UAW massively botched the launch of the 2020 Explorer, Aviator and Police Interceptor models.  It was so bad, Ford acknowledged the problem in a filing with the SEC, after trucking thousands of new vehicles to another state for employees to try to fix the problems.  Ford was very coy with the media (and its customers) with the problems and defects.

After buying GM and Dodge vehicles for years, I ordered and bought my first Ford; a 2015 Ford Expedition Limited 4x4.  It was delivered with defects, and numerous problems have appeared.  However, there have been no safety recalls.

I have no faith currently that Ford can manufacture a new vehicle properly - and the numerous safety recalls just reinforce my beliefs.

Now that I'm ready to order an Expy Max FX4 after reviewing all of the specs in greater detail Ford no offers:

    1. Rain sensing wipers

    2. Auto dim drivers side mirror

    3. Power adjustable pedals

    4. Interior ambient lighting

In addition they dropped the speaker level to six from nine.

All of these items were standard in 2018 with the redesign. I'd pay an extra $1000.00 to have these options available. While they are all standard in the Limited FX4 Ford makes you take the Vista roof which is the one option I don't want.

I noticed GM allows customers to get all of the comfort options without taking the roof. Still staying with Ford but sure wish they would adjust the order/option packages.

I have a 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4, with the ambient lighting, adjustable pedals and the rain sensing wipers.

I found the ambient lighting to be a waste of money and that the rain sensing wipers worked poorly - so bad, that I turned the feature off.  Although I am the only driver of the vehicle, I do feel the adjustable pedals are a good feature - and agree that you should not have to order a package with the Vista roof to get the features you desire and are willing to pay for.

I misspoke. My F-150 checks for updates via WiFi weekly and has successfully downloads them when available. My Navigator will not even complete a check.

I have checked the owners page (no update available) and I have spoken to concierge, who simply referred me to my local dealer. Two different dealers have advised that no updates are available.

I just find it strange that there have been no updates for this vehicle in two years.

I’m curious - what updates do you want?  Is there a problem with the current version of the Sync software?  Thanks.

I see your forum name and I used to own a C5 1999 coupe - 6 speed - pewter - loaded out.  Put non-runflats on it and it drove like it was on clouds.

I bought my 1999 C5 coupe new - also with all options except magnesium wheels, block heater and the power telescoping wheel with memory package (on constraint when ordered).  It was arctic white with the firethorn red interior, with the A4 transmission and both tops. I ordered the vehicle in September 1998, and almost ordered the pewter color with a black interior..

The OEM Goodyear run-flats were terrible with noise and harshness.  When they wore out, I replaced them with Michelin run-flats and found them to be MUCH quieter and compliant.  The Goodyears were rated for 200 miles at zero pressure, but the Michelin run-flats were rated for 50 miles at zero pressure.

I bought my first Ford, a 2015 Ford Expedition Limited 4x4, and was disappointed with the initial and long-term quality.  Ford has a problem on their hands with building new vehicles without defects when they are delivered new to the customer.

Currently, the Bronco Sport has been delayed, there are thousands of F-150 models being held in holding lots for quality checks, and the Mustang Mach-E has been placed on a stop-ship order due to quality issues.

Good luck with your new vehicle.  It’s a shame you had so many problems - but considerable media coverage I’ve seen stated there were NUMEROUS problems with the 2020 Explorer and Aviator.  You would think Ford and Lincoln would bend over backwards to ensure their customer’s new cars are fixed right, because they knew of the many issues.

I am new to the forum and had our vehicle on our first trip and had either a rock or piece of ice hit our mirror cap causing the 3m to rip an scratched to plastic shell of the mirror cap. How hard are they to replace as I have found not much info regarding the part or replacement of the cap/cover

    Thanks for any help.

You could order a replacement cap from your dealer, using the VIN to ensure the correct cap, and then examine the backside of it to determine how it attaches to the mirror assembly.  I’d bet that it simply snaps on.
