The story begins in July 2023. My 2018 F-150 shows a check engine light at 70,380 miles. I take it to my dealer (Gordie Boucher Ford Thiensville WI) and they run the $150 scan and determine that the left catalytic converter is bad. The warranty on the converter runs to 80,000 miles so it turns out the diagnostics and replacement of the converter is covered under warranty so no cost to me. I wasn't aware that there were two converters on the truck and of course they won't replace the right one at that time because diagnostics don't indicate it is bad. Now roll the calendar ahead to April 2024 and once again a check engine light reappears. Well now the diagnostics test is up to $175, and my truck has 80,930 miles on it so past the 80,000 warranty range on the converter. I told the service advisor (Angie) I am guessing it is the right converter and she tells me she will go to bat for me with Ford. They call me to inform me that it is indeed the right Catalytic converter and gives me a cost of over $2,300.00 to replace it!! I of course balk at that cost and she asks me if I have an extended warranty. She knows full well I don't as I have all the service work performed at their dealership. So, the talk about going to bat for me with Ford is no longer there and I called her on that. She then states she will talk to her Service Manager to see what they can do.

He called me and stated he will apply for the Ford Good Will Program. I never heard of this program before and after researching it I am not finding much information explaining the program. Well, the game continues and about a week later I receive a call from the service advisor telling me Ford approved it and I get to pay 60% of the cost while they supposedly cover 40%. An appointment is made for April 22,2024 at 8am and I received a call telling me the part is lost in transit. I received a follow-up call 20 minutes later stating they located the part, and it will be delivered Tuesday morning. I told her to call me when you have the part in hand, and I will then make an appointment. That happens and I take the truck in on April 26, 2024. The repair is completed, and I receive the paperwork showing just my payment of $1319.11 with sales tax. No indication whatsoever what Ford's payment is.

I have been driving Fords since 1990 and am now pretty disgusted with them. I am seriously considering selling my truck and buying a Toyota Tundra.

What are you upset about?  They fixed it as they said you would at the cost they quoted you.  Seems like they upheld their end of the bargain, no?

Why would you sell your truck?  It's got 2 new catalytic convertors in it, so it should be good for a while!

I have the opposite opinion of Antimatter blue - I very much dislike it, and call it "why bother blue", since you need direct sunlight to even know it's blue.  Sadly, that's the only blue currently offered on the Raptor, which makes no sense to me.....but I'm glad we have 5 shades of gray! [/sarcasm]

Point taken...I call it bluack.  It does look good in bright sun with a fresh wax job (which doesn't happen much for me unfortunately)!

  3. Carbonized Grey is really sharp, especially with a fresh wax job as the metal flake pops.

I'm a big fan of the Rapid Red that we have on the Mach-E.

Antimatter Blue is awesome as well, especially the way it changes colors with different lighting.  But dam is it hard to keep clean!  I wish I had kept my original color of Carbonized Grey instead of changing to AB.

The new Eruption Green is pretty sharp looking as well, and glad to see them bringing back a nice green.

Personally, I think GM has the best colors.  The deep red that Mazda has (not sure the color) is very sharp too.

Not a fair comparison since one EV charger can service 1 vehicle every hour, maybe 2 while a regular gas station can serve anywhere from 24 vehicles per hour up to 120 at a place like Buc-Ees.

True, but also, not everyone with an EV needs to use an EV charging station.  In over 5k miles, we have used an EV charger once (well, twice if you count the freebie we got while we shopped).  I've used a gas station twice in the past 10 days with my truck in only 250 miles (towing fuel economy stinks).

  5. I got pulled over for speeding (45 in a 35 or something like that) on the main drag in the nearby city when out on a date.  The cop came up and said "Oh, looks like you're on a date.  You lost some cool points tonight, huh?"  My girlfriend chuckled a little, and when he walked back to his car, said she thought it was pretty funny.  I got off with a warning.  We've been married for over 25 years now (the girl and I, not the cop and I). :)

The only other time I got pulled over, I was doing 64 in a 50 (the speed just dropped and I didn't notice it).  The cops (yes, both of them) came up and harassed me about my license being expired, even though they were good for another 6 months.  I was in my early 20's, and they could tell I was nervous and they were laughing at my expense.  Another warning, so I was able to keep my clean driving record.

You have to be careful about that.  It can appear that other cars have brights on when it’s just the curve of the road.  If the fog lamps are on then brights can’t be on for factory lights at least.  That cop must have been having a bad day.

I get flashed a lot in my Super Duty, but I expect it since it's so tall and has big, bright, LEDs.  I figured the cop was having a bad day.  I asked my nephew, who is a highway patrolman, if he would give a ticket for that.  He said, well, I'd probably pull you over to let you know, but would only give you a ticket if you're being a jerk about it.

grey area....there were some Dealers, not sure how, that recieved GTs under the same "invitation" only premise ( false name maybe, maybe buyer fell through, I have no idea ) that had showroom cars already registered ( no miles, same as a lot of Ferrari dealers were doing  ) that were being sold for HUGE $$$...where theres a will theres a way as its said...15k on a car like the GTD....pffffffffffft......Ford obviously, by charging what they are for the GTD, think the car is pretty special ( and I think it is )  but not special enough to compensate the dealers what I would consider an appropriate amount for the "privilidge"...and then they get pissed at Dealers adding addendums ( and to this day I think that may be potentially be  the core reason for the HUGE price increases across the entire lineup over the last couple of years ) ..vicious circle....and I can semi understand it from both sides...

Maybe I'm missing something here, and if so, clue me in.  But, if the cars are already sold by invitation only, why does the dealer deserver more than 5% of the cost of this thing for the privilege of selling it?  I'm sure the customer gets to pick the dealer they want to deliver it, correct?  I mean, how much work does the dealer put in? Something like this, I would imagine the PDI is minimal since it's likely already done.  What does the dealer do to "earn" that $15k and why do they deserve more?

Sometimes I flash my high beams at them, sometimes I leave it be.....half the time they don't know what I'm flashing them for anyway.

I’ve found flashing your lights only work about 20% of the time, maybe less.

My daughter flashed her lights at someone a couple weeks ago because she said it looked like their lights were on bright and she couldn't see.  Turns out it was a cop.  Cost her $150.  Apparently, the cop was an ass about it too.  Expensive lesson for a college kid.

They're showing raw numbers of vehicles "on the road", Ford leads because they built the most vehicles, not because they're more or less reliable.

No, they are showing percentages.  If a company produced 1 vehicle and it was still on the road, that would be 100%, and it would be in the lead (I'm sure there is a minimum number produced to be in this list, though).  It's not about sheer number of vehicles produced, it's about the % produced that is still out there.  Percentage is the key word.

I read an article recently that placed blame for Apples dominance in the US with the carriers; The articles theory as to why is Apple provides support for their phones and as a result offloads a lot of the support that would otherwise be provided by the carrier.

That's not to "blame" the carriers, that's Apple earning the market share through their support.

And I can proudly say, in a company with thousands of employee's, I was the last one to give up my Blackberry,,,,,,

I loved the BB I had before the Windows phone (the physical buttons made it the best for sending texts/emails).  Except that time the Sheriff showed up at my door after I somehow inadvertently (and unbeknownst to me) called 911 from the phone in my pocket while I was weed eating.  The lock function didn't work very well...

Yep. Even when my work phone was an iPhone, my personal phones were Windows phones. They were sooo much better than iPhone or Android that it wasn't even funny.

Agreed! I loved my Windows phone, and was sad when I had to replace it with an iPhone (it was a work-supplied phone, and my only phone).

I'm sure @akirby is shocked by this revelation...

    Congrats! (I hope)

Thanks!  Definitely...life is so much less stressful (so far), and I am really enjoying what I'm doing.  It helps to have a contract and be 110% billable for the next 12-15 months.

You’re right.  They actually cut 2024 prices significantly.

Of course they did...I bought a 23 back in late October! :(

However, the price I paid is pretty comparable to today's prices.  I had a decent rebate (11k) + the $3750 tax rebate + $2500 incentive from my employer for buying an electric vehicle (it's an electric company).  Since I no longer work for that employer (I quit to run my own business a week ago), I wouldn't qualify for the $2500 and the tax rebate is now gone, so I feel OK. :)

  15. I believe these increases are just over the LOWERED '23 prices, not the original '23 prices.  Equipment differences exist between '23 and '24 models as well.  For instance, the GT now comes standard with the magnetic shocks, which you had to get the GTPE to get in '23 (a $5k option).  So, a $70k GT in '23 is now $54k.  At least, that's the way I'm reading it.
