  1. I know the LX cars are based on several modified design componants, not a complete platform from a previous E-class ... And this was done while Chrysler was aquired by Daimler as one merged company.

Ford of NA wiil not even pull from its own resources to provide a RWD performance sedan.

I stand corrected. I'd always heard it was the entire platform.

  2. Greetings,

The X-plan is really supposed to only be for Ford Business Partners. Companies that supply something to Ford. Maybe they slide in big companies also. I worked for a large company and got X-plan. I am not sure to what extent they were a Ford Supplier? But they all use chips in their electronics now days so I immagine they were.

X-plan is not really supposed to be for the every day Joe. Regardless, you can get invoice on a much of the line up at most any dealer.

    Peace and Blessings

X plan is also designed for friends and non immediate families of employees. That's why the employees get 4 PINs to give out every year.

  3. One day the service guy says, they're fine, got plenty of life left. Next oil change, they are warped and the whole ball of wax has to be replaced.

Sounds like they didn't properly torque the lugnuts when they rotated the tires. What exactly does the "whole ball of wax" entail?

  4. I've got one being built for me next week, do I cancel it till they get the brakes fixed or change to Michelins? If they know that they can decrease the stopping distance 15'-20' by changing tires (I would settle for that)why not make the changes with the tire now instead of asking the consumer to spend another $800-$1000 to change to Michelins? That would seem to be good for business. Also I had expected to get around the stickers MPG's, but from what I read on some sites is that most people are not getting close to that, is that true?

I would also hope that they would follow Microsoft's example of upgrades, like if there is a different setting to increase the gas mileage or changing the brake pads for better stopping. Ford should be continually looking to upgrade their vehicles and passing the upgrades free to at least the recently purchased vehicles. If you make a mistake (everybody does) tell us, fix it quickly and learn from it. Good quality products sell.

We wanted this Edge, love the looks & ride, but all this makes me wonder.

Because it's expensive to change tire suppliers in the middle of a model year, and most potential buyers don't compare braking distances - if it feels good then it's fine.

If it bothers you try a set of Porterfield R4S pads and get the dealer to swap you some Michelins.

  5. Wasn't the production of the Edge delayed due to quality problems?

I am not a CR fan, but I'd be furious if I bought a new vehicle and the rear hatch would not open. Yes, it is probably "just an adjustment" or "one bad part", but a door latch not working? This is basic stuff.

I saw the new Edge at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2006. I fell in love with the vehicle's styling. With reports of quality concerns with it, I would be very hesitant to buy one.

I hope the vehicle is a huge success for Ford, but articles such as this will hurt Edge sales.

The CR Edge didn't fail - the point was it took more effort to open the rear liftgate than the CR guy expected. And the Edge wasn't delayed by any particular quality problem - it was simply the higher standards put on the new assembly line and suppliers whereby they had to have 5 straight days with no problems. One problem on one vehicle and the counter starts over.

  6. Troy Aikman Ford 75231 is the zip and the VIN is 1FTSW21R58EA10733

    Thanks for your help!!!!

<<note....this isn't the exact truck I'm looking at....can't find a VIN on the one at the local dealer and I'm stuck here in the office and can't go get the VIN off that truck......but the one listed above is exactly the same>>

Sorry, FordDirect doesn't show any F350s at Aikman Ford or any of the other nearby dealers. Did you see it in person or on FordDirect.com?

  7. WTF? so the dealer could chase away the buyers and FoMoCo can't do nothing about it?

What kind of a legal system does America have.. sheesh.

Basically - yes. The dealers got their state politicians to pass laws back in the 50's/60's that protect the dealerships from the manufacturers to the point that the mfrs have virtually no recourse against bad dealerships.

  8. Thanks. Coming up on 11,000 now. Just wish more of them were Edges.

The awful ad campaign won't help. The song is wrong--clearly written by someone trying to mimic being with it rather than actually being with it--the visuals is wrong--why would an SUV be driving with just one set of wheels touching?--and I just don't get it.

    Driving on the Edge.......

  9. Ok I hope some one in the Ford Division will get this feedback to the power to be.

My wife had the chance to demo a fully loaded Edge for a day. Her review was.

This is one nice car. She fell in love with it and will be ordering one in July. The only thing that she sais was to add HID Lights and a Home Link. So sat down with my fleet guy and She was sad to hear that no option for Home Link or HID's.

I can add the HID's after market but the Home Link is a no go.

    PLEASE forward this onto engineering.

PS. She drove it 123miles in to and some highway and got 17.9mpg that was great better than we thought it would get.

    Thanks

I added Homelink to my Fusion. I just bought a homelink sun visor off ebay for $35 (this one was from a Maxima but they're all the same) and cut out the homelink transmitter and added it to my sun visor. Not easy and you have to be careful not to screw up the fabric but it just wires right into the lighted vanity mirror. Or you can mount it anywhere else - you just need 12V power and a ground. Or you can get a Zephyr/MKZ visor if the fabrics match (expect to spend about $300).

  10. Well, it seems nobody wants to do the experiment. Let me ask it a simpler way--what does the Edge Owners Manual say about the use of the "L" selector position in terms of engine braking or descending hills. Is there at least an overdrive lockout button that helps in this regard?

I have a Fusion with the same shifter and I'm sure it works the same. The computer won't allow a downshift that would cause damage so no worries there. What L will do is downshift and keep the RPM around 4K with engine braking. It will still shift up and down as necessary. In my limited testing it seems to be sufficient for a moderate downgrade but a steep descent may require some braking. I have one long hill near my house - I'll try it there.

The mazda manu-matic would definitely work better if that's something you do a lot. For occasional use I don't think it would matter much.

  11. The Hybrid Nav radio has a 6 disc changer under the passenger seat and has NO option for either MP3 or SAT despite advertising and dealer info to the contrary. Ford was nice enough to fix the owners manual, and the tool to order a NEW one, but nothing else, no effort was made to correct the dealer info (dealers are STILL telling folks that it does have those features!), the window sticker or even the website that shows the "wrong" radio with the wrong description, and wrong features. Despite the fact that all of the other Escapes and Mercury Mariner's have that option, show it the same on their sticker, I am supposed to just "get over it" because a) its in the owners manual (didnt you read yours before buying your vehicle?) B) if you build it online it clearly shows the conflict (Didnt you try to build the exact model that the dealer had in stock before buying?)

Nevermind that the dealers can't figure it out ( read Dean's posts), according to some here, (more than likely Ford shills) we are supposed to just realize that everyone makes mistakes and over a year for them to correct the misleading info is not quite enough time and we should be overjoyed that we are driving fords despite whatever misleading info was given.

Take a deep breath and try to comprehend. I agree with you that it's confusing and should be changed on the website. I also agree that a reasonable person would have assumed the energy/nav/audiophile unit would play mp3s.

The only thing I disagree with is that it's false advertising and that it was done on purpose to mislead people.
