I called UAW Local 882 (404-761-5776) & spoke with a union offical. He conformed that the info I will post below is 100% accurate. He also confirmed that personal taking a transfer offer recieved $45K for moving expenses.
Workers at the doomed Ford plant in Hapeville will be given options for buyout and early retirement packages on Sept. 18, said UAW Local 882 President Samuel "Steve" Stephens.
The nearly 2,100 union members won't have long to decide. Ford will close the plant, which produces the Taurus, on Oct. 27.
Workers who have been pitched the packages so far can select from five choices:
> A lump sum of $100,000 for those with at least one year on the job who leave the company and forfeit all benefits other than pensions;
> A lump sum of $35,000 for those age 55 or older with at least 30 years of service, and 65 or older with at least one year of service;
> 85 percent of straight-time pay for those with between 28 and 30 years of service, followed by regular retirement when 30 years of service is reached;
> A fixed income for life, the amount of which varies from worker to worker and is less than the amount they would receive through the regular retirement program;
> Tuition reimbursements for up to $15,000, continued health benefits and life insurance, and an annual living expense stipend of about half of straight-time wage rate, with most benefits expiring after four years or upon graduation.
