  1. Might actually be a smart move. Think about it, one of the reasons we don't have a Ranger is because the F-150's fuel economy with the 3.7-liter was about as good as the last Ranger's. So if you're going to invest and play in the small/midsize truck market here in the U.S., you've got to offer a few reasons for folks to want to go to your midsize offering. A smaller size so it fits in the garage combined with the mileage advantage offered by these trucks when equipped with this engine will be a couple of good reasons. Because almost certainly, GM is going to encounter the problem that Ford used as another justification for not giving us the current Ranger here: when equipped like this with said engine, these trucks are undoubtedly going to be in or at least close to Silverado/Sierra territory price-wise. Like I said, this may help the Colorado/Canyon in just the right way.
  2. All good questions. We always talk about what vehicles are built where, but how many plants are actually capable of adding capacity at all? (Outside of the two you just mentioned)
  3. Good, quick read. My question is this: Second-to-last paragraph... Is that just the writer giving an example, or a veiled reference to what may just happen at Flat Rock? Ford's Flexible Manufacturing is a marvel in that we already have two different vehicles off of two entirely different platforms rolling out of there, would three even be feasible? I'm sure it would always depend on the specific plant in question, so is Flat Rock a plant that could even do three different vehicles? (Again, I may be reading into it too much, and Flat Rock was just being cited as an example.) But, could an existing plant realistically be configured to do three very different vehicles like that? Thoughts folks? http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130807/AUTO0102/308070081/1148/auto01/Ford-executive-expects-automaker-will-boost-capacity-meet-demand

  8. Is there any possibility at all that the reason the number of days supply is high for MKZ and so low for Fusion is that maybe Ford plowed ahead and built an excess number of MKZs to hold them over so that they could then turn around and build nothing but Fusions for a bit in order to feed the high demand?
  9. I'm going to post a link for this, but these mofos have an occasional habit of throwing up a "Please Subscribe" screen when you paste a link to one of their articles. If that happens, my apologies, but you'll have to head over there to read it. http://europe.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20130712/ANE/307119951/ford-says-auto-industry-needs-more-europe-output-cuts#axzz2YpUbwu6C (So far so good...)

  12. Something fun. For the month of June, these were actually recorded sales of new, unsold, discontinued models. Some of them, I can't believe how long they've been out of production.(!) I've put the end-production date after so you don't have to look it up... Hyundai Veracruz - 10 (11/15/2011, rebadged as '12s) Buick Lucerne - 5 (6/15/2011) Cadillac STS - 4 (5/4/2011) Acura RL - 3 (?? 15. They pretty much really like the car, with the exception of the motor. (Which doesn't surprise me, I steer everyone that asks me clear of the 1.6-liter EB) http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2013-ford-fusion-16l-ecoboost-automatic-test-review *Edited. Had to check WTH went wrong, but my original link was to Page 2 of the article, sorry folks...
  16. You got me wondering that myself, so I went over to look. The only vehicle that can get there is the CX-9, and of the three available trim levels, you have to pick either the mid (Touring) or up-level (Grand Touring) trim. In the case of the Touring model, you still have to select the AWD version to hit $37k. The Grand Touring gets up there in either FWD or AWD models. But.....yea.....that's really it.

  19. I don't know that it's a matter of the exterior styling per se, but more in regards to the quality of the interior that's the problem. Styling is subjective of course, but when you sit inside a Chevrolet compared to a Ford, the difference is blatantly obvious. A few of us have been commenting on this for awhile, that really Buick's interiors are what needs to be inside Chevrolets, which is GM's volume brand, to be competitive. And as RJ said, they're more-or-less keeping Chevy downmarket to keep it from stepping on Buick's toes.
