With Mustangs 50th anniversary coming up next month, I was wondering if anyone knows of any events going on in MI? I have read there is one planned for Las Vegas and one in Charlotte but shouldnt there be something in Dearborn or Flat Rock? Thanks

Today GM announced they are going to offer $60k buyouts to skilled trades at certain plants. Does anyone think it's possible that Ford might offer a similar deal?

Yes, I was refering to permanent positions. Alot of the temp jobs are ending soon so all these MWs that are working will be hitting the street. Thanks though.

Does anyone have any info on possible job openings that might become available soon for Skilled Trades, Millwright in particular? It seems I read often on here about Production Workers needed at different facilities but rarely anything about Skilled Trades....

In case anybody missed it, Ford announced today that they will be creating 635 new jobs at several different facilities by 2012. What Im wondering is if any of these will be for skilled trades or will they all be production? Have all layed off production people been placed or will these be the $14 new hires? I would think that if a facility is adding production a certain percentage of the workers added would need to be trades? Does anyone have any inside information on what classifications will be needed? Thanks in advance.

Just was informed today we finally have a new tenative local agreement here at brownstown prc. Going from 30 classifications down to 10. Including making us M/Ws do all our own welding. I know they are wanting to do that at alot of locations including at WSP where I used to work. Im afraid Welder Generals are a dying breed...

Yep it's true! Got the call yesterday ,6 of us start at Brownstown PRC Monday morning! I really hope I like it so I'm not tempted to go back to Woodhaven if they ask.

I am one of the layed off M/W's from Woodhaven. When I started my apprenticeship 8 years ago there were 62 Journeymen and 5 apprentices. 6 months ago we had 42 Journeymen and 7 apprentices. 7 Journeyman and 2 apprentices took the buyout, 10 Journeymen and 2 apprentices were layed off on Jan. 8th and 5 more Journeymen to be layed off starting today. That leaves just 22 Journeymen and 2 apprentices to cover 3 shifts at FOMOCO's biggest stamping plant! They cut our dept. by 50% from 6 months ago when they told us to expect 1/3. I'm pissed , but at the same time I hope I might get to go to another plant someday. Management can't be this stupid everywhere. 2 of 3 PE bosses on afternoons never had any trades experience, one was a Pepsi machine repairman and one was a brick estimator!! I should have taken a buyout!
