  1. By effective, I mean - it gets the point across. They can spend a million on a 30 second commercial with special effects, a director, perfect mountain scenery, actors, etc, etc, or park the car beside a BMW and say our cars does this and that better for $15k less. IMO, the latter is just as effective.
  2. Exactly. I just saw the G8 vs 5 series commerical. It's a simple commercial where they mention that the G8 is faster and gets better gas mileage. Simple but effective, IMO.
  3. Umm, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what they're doing. The mini cooper is a tiny car. The Escalade is huge SUV that gets better gas mileage than a mini (who cares if they cherry picked a certain trim). Thus, they are trying to make people think "Wow, GM can build a big ole SUV that gets better mileage than that tiny little car - that's pretty cool." It's not the best commercial ever, but it certainly isn't the worst.
  4. Sounds like a lot, but not surprising when you consider the Camaro is a new car with performance comparable to the GT500 (3900lbs). IRS also adds weight over a stick axle.
  5. The V6 Camaro is about 200lbs heavier than the GT with the same HP.
  6. It surprised me too...I think Ford used to include destination in the price, but with the new website layout it isn't..
  7. That doesn't include destination which is $800. So $3420 price difference. Yeah, the SS is heavier, but it also has an extra 122hp, IRS, better weight balance, 20" wheels, Brembo brakes and a stronger 6-speed trans. The SS is more comparable to the GT500 than than the GT. Luckily it's a lot cheaper.
  8. If you want to correct someone, at least try to be accurate. http://bp2.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/200...ng#page=/Style/ Ford Mustang GT MSRP $27,570 Ford Mustang GT Premium MSRP $29,520 Base Camaro SS = $30,995....$3400 more than a GT. Thanks for playing.
  9. Equally equipped, a 2SS Camaro is about $3000 more than a GT.
  10. $3500. The Camaro has 122 more HP. If the engineers are correct, the SS will only be about 0.2 second slower to 60 mph than a GT500. The Camaro also includes a more sophisticated suspension setup, brembo brakes, 6 speed trans, etc.

  12. Why compare the Camaro and G8? They don't compete with each other. One is a 4-door sedan and the other is a pony car. The engine in the G8 GT is perfectly fine. 362hp in a full size sedan for around $30k is a deal. The Camaro needs a more powerful base V8 because it's in a more competitive segment with the Mustang and Challenger.
  13. I don't care about the Z28 either. As I said, I'll take an SS over the GT500...no need for a Z28.
  14. Eww Mullets! The Camaro will never appeal to the sophisticated high class Mustang crowd:
  15. And here is Scott Settlemire response tp that article: (question asked by another poster) Scott's response: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.p...98796#post98796 UHHHH OHHHH!!!! Get Tommy Servo a nappy...him just soiled his panties!!!!!!
  16. Umm, I gave solid reasoning as to why I would want the SS over the GT500. I don't see why the word fanboy needs to be used. As I said, the SS has IRS, it's 60lbs lighter, gets better gas mileage, has better weight balance and will cost AT LEAST $10k less. The only reasons I can think of for buying the GT500 are: 1. You LOVE the looks 2. You absolutely MUST go 0.5 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile 3. You're a Ford fanboy
  17. The SS also uses the T6060. I don't care what year they're on, the Camaro SS and 500hp GT500 will be on sale at the same time and I'd rather have the SS. Besides, Chevy has the Z28 waiting to pounce.
  18. Hey boys and girls. How about this comparison: GT500 = 500hp/3920lbs/T56 Camaro SS = 422hp/3860lbs/T56 GT500 = 14/20 MPG Camaro SS = 15/23 MPG The Camaro also has a much newer chassis and more sophisticated independent rear suspension. Oh yeah, it'll likely cost $10-15k LESS. Give me a SS - make it red.
  19. Gotta link??? :reading: BTW length G8 - 196.1" Camaro - 186.2" Wheelbase G8 - 114.8" Camaro - 110.5" Height G8 - 57.7" Camaro - 53" Now how is a car that is so much smaller with 2 less doors going to weigh the same? Heck, if weight wasn't at least somewhat of a concern, GM could've just used the G8's exact platform with the same dimensions (much like Chrysler did).
  20. We've all got a little trailer in us.
  21. The G8 is actually 3990 lbs so lets take 110 lbs off your estimate and say 3690lbs for the Camaro. Is an extra 190lbs over the Mustang going to scare off potential buyers....VERY doubtful.
  22. Where are you people getting that the Camaro will be 4000 lbs???? You do know that the Camaro is smaller than the G8, right?
  23. I can't wait. This car is AWESOME. I'm expecting close to 50/50 weight distribution and I know it'll have IRS....not only will the car appeal to those who like domestic pony cars, but I can also see import fans really liking it.
  24. Maybe you're thinking of the Challenger.....the base V6 Camaro will likely be in the low 20s.
