Actually this started several years ago. The powertrain folks were told that they would get no prototypes. All development was to be done on previous year cars. In some case hoods and fenders were cut. In a lot of case, the final zip tube and exhausts never really got fitted until pilot plant builds.
That's interesting....it makes sense though, that Ford doesn't want to reveal designs before they want them to be revealed.

If they can get the new Explorer out the door for 2010MY I would be shocked ! Last I heard it was 2012 (but of course that was 14 months ago).
I though it was going to be out earlier than that? That'd mean they're showing the concept 4 years before production....sounds like the "old" Ford to me.

Yep. It was April 17.
It is an APPROXIMATE DATE that should be stuck firmly in the head of any Ford enthusiast
:P

Do you think it might be
Why would the Taurus look like the S-Max?

2008 Mustang GT AT - 3,500 lbs
2008 Shelby GT500 - 3,920 lbs
Challenger
Edmunds predicted weight: 3,600 lbs
Car and Driver predicted weight 4,100 lbs

So..... it looks like the Challenger should fall somewhere near the 'Stangs weight stats. (The projected new Camaro's too!)
Does that infer then that the 'Stang too is a pig?
If so, then it's a very attractive and fun to drive pig! :shades:
And for the record IMHO, though the '72-'76 T-Birds WERE "Lead Sleds", they were some damn fine bitchin' rides! My first car was a 429 4bbl Dual Exhaust '72 T-Bird, and once that big block got revvin', that car could fly!

Maybe the Mustang will lose some weight for next year?

I could, but in the end I still wouldn't have an MKS lol.
Sorry, I meant after you got an MKS. lol.

Yeah... as far as I understand, the Navicross was supposed to be another piece of the DEW98 puzzle... small Lincoln sedan, Lincoln LS, Lincoln Navicross, and Lincoln Continental flagship, and the styling previewed a cancelled redesigned Lincoln LS. Even after DEW98 blew up, there was a plan in place to build direct replacements for the Lincoln LS and Ford Thunderbird on a flexible version of S197, but that never panned out either.
That would've made a good looking LS replacement, IMO.

Not everybody wants to buy a three box sedan! The only way a tall vehicle looks decent is if they make them look less like a sedan and more like an SUV (witness mis-proportioned Taurus). But who says a tall vehicle needs to look like a station wagon on stilts?
With the MKX, I've learned the virtues of sitting taller on the road and I'm not going back down there!
So, how is the MKX ownership experience?Yes, I should ask you, being an MKX owner, do you like it?

This show car represented a vehicle that was to be the stablemate of a new Lincoln LS. It's not so far away from the actual vehicle that could have been produced (the rear doors probably wouldn't have made it). But Lincoln and the new LS program imploded. Thanks for posting the pictures; I think it still looks pretty good. But of course, you'd have to add the wave grille now....
I agree with you that, in concept, this type of vehicle is similar in nature to the new X6. And also the Infinity FX35/45 I think.
I had a look at the X6 at the Detroit auto show. I guess I just don't get it. If you try to get into the rear seat, the sloping roof hits you in your face (and I'm not very tall). So you have to actually bend your neck down a lot and lean forward to get in or risk decapitation. And I personally don't like the overall styling and stance. Bloody useless auto in my opinion.
Funny you mention AMC. I said to my friend "this reminds me of an AMC Eagle."
I too think that it still looks good.
I'm undecided on the X6, I would like to see it in person to make a better decision. From pictures, I like the concept (idea) of an SUV with a coupe type look, but I'm not sure if I like BMW's take on it. I think BMW is trying to overstyle their cars. To me, there's almost too much going on with the X6. I think the current 3 series (coupe and convertible, not necessarily the sedan) represents the best of Bangle's design theme. I do like the looks of the CS concept, though.

Too late, already quoted. :P
He got you on that one suv.

I'd drive my 300 into a river (how lucky, theres one only a couple hundred feet away....although it is a little frozen) if I could have an MKS...doesn't even have to be AWD.
You could drive it onto the ice and let it sit there until it melts, and watch it sink. :titanic:

Is direct injection going to be standard on all engines, or will it be an option?
The smallest engine for NA is probably going to be the 2.0L, but I think a 1.5L with DI would be a better option. I agree that having more engine choices is empowering, but I just don't want it to be like in Europe where you have to choose between a 1.4L, a 1.6L, a 1.6L diesel, a 1.8L, a 1.8L diesel, a 1.8L flex fuel, a 2.0L, a 2.0L diesel and a 2.5L turbo. How does anyone choose between them?
They drive each and choose which one they like?

Or the taxi company could save them selves some money and get the more reliable and cheaper to run CV.
It never ends.
You push the instant replay button a lot.

Yessir,
First test market will be this Spring. I need some sales figures to plan on. If all goes well, we will be doing the clay for the new 2009 F-150 this summer and have it available when the 2009 model goes on sale this fall.
Well, it looks like you do good work.
-
For the SRT version or just for the base and R/T versions?
I'd assume it'd be for the higher hp models as well.

hey now. don't mock my beloved Aztek.

There's always worse smilies....
Wow, that's, um....interesting.

Maybe the guys at Toyota thought it was a welcoming thing for the Tundra. :shades:
Maybe...

It is tough looking with a bit of Porsche Cayenne.
I can see that.

Ok then, I'd like to see a new Cougar.

My '04 F-150 Super Crew has rear window defrost, but rear defrost was not offered with the power window option. It was either defrost or power not both. I would have to agree with weriley that it would take alot of changes.
Boegey
I believe I'm wrong about the rear window defrost. I believe as you said, it's only available with the fixed rear window. I know my dad's F-150 with the power rear window doesn't have a defroster.

Yeah, the new flex sure is something. it looked very awsome although i was not able to actually sit in it, the flex looks like it will have almost the same amount of space as the expedition.
The Flex does look impressive. I think it'll be a good seller for Ford.

Does anyone know if the 09 is going to have more options than the 08? I'm trying to decide if I want an 08 for better interest or order an 09 if it will have better features. I really want sync, is that going to be in the 09? Also when will the order guide be out? Thanks!!!!
I'm curious, ELlover, would you be replacing your 07 Expedition or getting it in addition to you current vehicles?
-
RMC, do you tow anything with your F-150? My dad tows a 7,000 pound travel trailer with our 5.4 F-150.
He doesn't tow much, but his company does have a large trailer that he needs to tow around every once and a while.

You don't even know how the EcoBoost motors drive, sound, or feel yet, though. For all we know, it could drive like the 3.5, yet be a 4.
