  1. Funny, I guess we are making the SE for export because you can't get it in Canada anymore. If you go on the Ford.ca site, you will see that we only have the SEL and Limited. Last year the SE models were staying on the lots but they couldn't get enough SEL's.

To my knowledge, they still offer the SE model in the US. That was a problem when the Edge launched: people were going for higher end versions rather than lower end versions. I believe production has been adjusted accordingly now.

  2. I've yet to see a clear indication of a future for Mercury, but if Ford sells off all Euro car companies then I would hate to see Mercury go away.

As such and since nobody has put forth a sensible niche for the brand to folow, then I would like to offer remaking Mercury into a brand which sells only those vehicles which are considered to be fuel-efficient and/or environmentally friendly. Why not make Mercury into the "green" brand, but of course every vehicle in the lineup must follow the formula. This would make Mercury unique as a brand and the media would refer to Mercury when it discusses those characteristics among brands.

There isn't much to lose. Sales are not much now so if anything, it could only be a positive thing for Merc.

This idea has been presented here before....I think it may be a good idea.

  3. IN my area, Diesel is more than regular, in fact...it's a bit more than Premium Gas. Thats why I have reservations about it...

It's the same here in my area, diesel is more than premium (about 10 cents higher I believe). I believe sales would depend on 1) the area and 2) mileage. If mileage increases enough, you'll likely see folks buying them even if diesel is a bit more expensive.

  4. The CV is a good car for police use in the US. But there is a big but involved today. Since the writing is on the wall that they will be going away, departments in the areas around me seem to be going to the competition.

There have been a few agencies that have been using the FWD Chevy Impala for about 5 or 6 years. They seem to be satisfied with the performance they deliver. One big advantage a local Sheriffs dept sees with the Impala is lower operating cost due to better fuel economy. This is vey important today. I am seeing some other agencies trying out the Impala lately.

There has been a big increase lately in the use of the Dodge Charger. I know of 3 agencies who have stopped purchasing new CVs for their fleets and instead are purchasing Chargers. They seem to be happy with them, and those that have been in use 18 to 24 months seem to be holding up. An item of interest for the Chargers is that some are equipped with a V6 for better fuel economy. There is the rare 08 Taurus in several agencies, but they seem to be used by process servers mostly.

Over the years agencies around here have used a wide range of vehicles, from the Chrysler K cars in the 80s (yes, K cars for highway cruiser duty!) to Ford Rangers (for local patrol duty) to the odd Grand Marquis. The CV can and will be replaced - the question is what will Ford have to replace it.

I've been told by another poster here that an entire (fairly large) police department (Broward Sherriff's Office, BSO) will be switching to all Chargers over the next few years.

I also saw a Charger taxi cab today, it was a very strange sight. So, it looks like the Charger will be looked at by both police and taxi operators.

  5. Unless it steals market share from the E-Vans which are more profitable.

Unless they sell enough of them to equal profits of the Econoline.

Besides, even if it does steal sales from the Econoline, the buyer will be staying in the Ford realm of things.

Also, lower Econoline sales may cause Ford to redesign the thing. (Just thinking out loud)

  6. GM's mild hybrids are a joke and just for the marketing, But I think you are forgetting that they have the two mode hybrid now............that is a big step above what Ford can currently offer customers.

Hopefully if the Hydraulic Hybrid is still in development, it will be able to out-do GM's Two-Mode Hybrid when it debuts.

  7. Is the Flex based on D32 also ?

Will the Taurus X move to D32 ?

Anything more specific on D3 vs D32 (wheelbase, width, weight, etc) other than "smoother, stronger, and more responsive"

I'm not sure, but I wanna say that Flex is D3, but it very well could be put on the D32 chassis.

Taurus X may likely die after Explorer debuts, and if you mean until then, I don't know.

  8. Yeah i know what you mean, When my dad and i were looking at the 500's, the salesman could not find out if it was AWD, Although it said AWD on the back. I did not tell the salesman.

My dad was being kind of rude too, asking me in front of the salesman about options, etc.

I seem to be like you, just saying ok, etc. even if I know he's wrong.

  9. My 1 month update. I will get mileage and mpg tomorrow. Right now, I'll just go over good and bad.

    good

    1. ) love the looks/color

    2.) love the rims

3.) love the seats, 10 way power, very comfortable.

4.) very quiet compared to 2003 XLS

5.) really good ride, smooth and not just for an suv

6.) like the over all control layout and appearance. chrome trim i like, like the gear shift. radio is nice.

    bad

1.) turn signal switch is too high

2.) i don't like the location of the gas gauge and temp gauge.

3.) I wish it had all 4 smaller gauges like the F150

    overall on a scale of 1-10, 10 being perfect. I give it a 9.

I don't like the new 45-degree angle the turn signal stalks are being placed at either. I like how the 03-06 Expedition has it, at a little less than 90 degree angle.

  10. anyone know if the new nav unit will be there for 09?

I'd think that it may be possible, however, the new system (at least in F-150) uses an 8-inch screen, so it may not be available in Expedition until the interior is changed.

  11. You can change the lights? Sweet. I know some aftermarket head units let you change the light color. Green, blue, orange. I always thought that was a cool feature.

That green ford has been using is tired. Heck, how long have they had that late 80's?

The guage colors can be changed, not the rest of the interior lighting, which remains "Ford green." I'd assume the 09/10 Mustang would switch to the Ice Blue lighting though.

  12. The only problems I have had on the 06 is the F150 emblem peeled and the leather seat has premature wear. Maybe its because my short ass has to hop/slide into it. :hysterical:

Well, yours is 2 years newer, so I wouldn't expect the paint to be peeling yet. I've heard about the emblems peeling, thankfully, my dad's hasn't had that problem. I too have noticed that the leather on his drivers seat is already starting to discolor/wear.

  13. hey off-topic but how much does your dad's F-150 make at the crank?

and if you know, how much at the wheels?

I don't know offhand, but I'll ask him and get back to you.

Here are some pics though: (it's dirty and desperately needs a wash and wax)

He estimates somewhere around 500 hp. I don't know figures at the wheels.
