  1. yeah the superduty pictured is a good looking truck, its younger siblings were beaten to death with the ugly stick however. perhaps that will curtail the stealing problem?

seems like the story was blaming the heavy duty truck for being a popular item for thieves? how about shooting the smugglers? that would work much better than blaming the truck.

I wasn't aware that the super duties didn't have the chipped keys. considering a Lariat Powerstroke can reach $60k that seems pretty stupid of ford's part, when a $21K Grand Marquis has it.

It seems like Ford is blamed for everything these days.

I'd laugh if that guy that switch to Chevy because of this incident had his Chevy stolen as well.

  2. Not for another 2 years as mid 2010 is the dead line for all pre July 2008 models to comply with Euro IV.

Orion Falocn will be ushered in just before the cut off to ensure the I-6 continues until July 2010.

FoA are looking at the 3.7 DI and Ecoboost 35 after that time.

By not modifying the I-6 (with an alloy block) to meet the regs, Ford will save $2,000/engine.

That is a compelling argument and, 300 of the 600 employees will be shifted from Geelong Engine

across to the Stamping plant as part of C2 Focus program.

So the new Falcon will still get the I6? I thought the new Falcon was to get the 3.5 from launch. Interesting....

  3. I know alot of people are bitching about Ford taking so long for a B-car to come out, but would you rather see them throw something in the market like the EcoSport or let them do something right like Verve that will blow the doors off any of the other B-cars looks wise?

I'd rather have them have a competitive entry to the market. Some may think it would've been better to rush a product here to establish a customer base. In my thinking, if that product is not up to snuff and is not at least equal with the competition, whatever customers you did gain would go to another brand for their next purchase, so you'd be starting from scratch anyways. With a competitive entry, Ford will not only establish a customer base for the current times, they will establish a customer base that extends into the future that will continue to buy that good quality Ford product.

  4. speaking from a customer viewpoint, Lincoln isn't always user friendly. when I recently asked about a 08 Mark LT I was looking at online. I called the L/M dealer to simply ask what three optional packages consisted of. (the website does not explain them at all)

I assume they have ordering guides, and perhaps a few in stock, but in 20 minutes on the phone, nobody on that end had any idea what the packages consisted of.

    2008 Lincoln Mark LT - Mark LT 4x4 6.5

    http://www.lincoln.com/marklt/models.asp

    Go over to "Packages" tab

Technology package wasn't listed, but I'd assume it'd include things like Nav system, reverse camera, reverse sensors, maybe a moonroof, etc.

  5. I would have to disagree.

Fleet managers care. Which is why they like to order V6s.

Independent construction contractors also feel the hit with fuel prices.

First one to bring a reasonably priced 30mpg pickup to the market will clean up.

May I add one thing to your statement?

Although what I added may not be true, depends on the customer, some may be willing to pay more than others.

  6. All those European license tags are hideous...really doesn't help vehicles much. Lets at least be thankful here in the US we have choices when it comes to tags.

I agree. Although some Euro tags can look good on the front of vehicles. Our tags dont look good on the front of any of our vehicles, IMO. I'm glad I live in a state where front plates aren't required.

  7. With Rambox, you can still put a 4X8 piece of plywood in the bed (as per the press release). You can also get a bed w/out Rambox with a wider bed interior.

So it does impede into bed space. I thought so from a picture I saw.

  8. I see NO reason, NOT to badge a Platinum as a Lincoln at all. Take it even more upscale. Their are people with the money who will purchase it, so don't complain about why or for what reason, just do it. A Lincoln Interior would look a little better inside than the Ford.

Ford can't justify spending extra money on a Lincoln version when sales aren't going to be that high. While, yes, it's true that people with money will buy them, there were such a limited few that bought the Mark LT that Ford doesn't want to do it. That said, I think if Ford had gone a little further (or tried at all) making the Mark LT and F-150 different, it would've sold more. I'd assume most potential customers couldn't justify spending thousands more on an F-150 with a chrome grille and a few Lincoln badges (I do like the Mark LT's, don't get me wrong).

You may argue that Ford spent money on this new Platinum model, but I believe the money they spent on that was less than what it would take to properly make a new Mark LT different from the F-150. Really all they did with the Platinum model (which I really like) is: on the outside they gave it a new grill and some different trim pieces and other options (bigger wheels, power deployable running boards, etc.) and on the inside they took the regular F-150 interior and gave it different leather, some real aluminum accents and several options, etc.

This is how I would make a new Mark LT look to truly make the two different:

  9. My favorite was someone who quoted a dealership as saying, The Tundra was not designed for commercial use. :ohsnap::doh::doh:

    :hysterical: That's funny.

Here'd be a more accurate quote:

"The Tundra was not designed for use as a truck." (I made that up, BTW).

  10. Selling Volvo certainly does make sense, it's got a good brand names, so that will raise cash. However Ford will need to invest billions to fix it. Selling JLR actually makes no sense. Jag is undergoing a massive fightback now, the XF is piling up awards and giving the company a waiting list. Land Rover is allegedly more profitable per car than even BMW. All JLR need to do is continue to gradually expand. This could generate serious amounts of cash for Ford Motor company. But Volvo is the new black hole.

Ford should focus on Ford, above Lincoln and Mercury. Ford is the global brand upon which everything else is built. Ford should not waste money on making Lincoln into a global brand. But should focus on taking on Buick in China and the USA. Personally speaking I'd switch Mercury over to selling FOE cars with the Mercury badge on. I see no future for the Mercury brand other than using it as a label to stick on FOE cars. I'd give Lincoln 5 years to make serious profits, with it's own bespoke model range. If It can't do it then I'd shut that and buy a European brand that will.

JLR may now be growing and increasingly profitable, but Ford's reason for selling it is because of the point you mentioned. You said they need to gradually expand.....Ford doesn't have the means to fund further expansion at this time. With the products planned for JLR, Ford decided it couldn't afford to keep the two any longer. One product reason is the Range Rover switching to an aluminum chassis, etc. (although I read an article the other day that said they may not switch since it will cut too heavily into profits). Personally, I agree with you that JLR should stay, since it seems they are finally on the track to profitability and success. I also agree with you that Volvo is increasingly looking like the new (former) JLR black hole. Their sales are slipping even with several new products. That said, the lineup also has it's fair share of old, almost neglected products (S60, etc). This is just speculation, but IMO I'd think to fix Volvo will require even more money than it did to fix JLR since it already has a larger model range. With JLR, you could expand to new segments, etc., but with Volvo, it's already playing in most of them. I suppose the argument could be said that all you would have to do is improve the products they are already offering, so I don't know what to tell you.

Now, onto Mercury.....you said FoE cars should be brought here and badged as Mercuries, this has been debated time and time again. With Ford globalizing it's operations, most products (except exclusive ones like F-150, Flex, etc) will be designed globally with little changes between FoE and FNA products. THen Mercury would just become another Ford rebadge if you went with this strategy. It would've been a short-term fix a few years ago, but at this point, it'd probably be a waste of money.
