  1. Took delivery of the truck, it is a 4X4 with 18 inch rims. It is a XLT regular cab with a cap on a 8 foot bed. I will be towing approximately, 7,500 pounds, multi-state 1,000 mile one way trips thru MI, IN, IL, WI, MN, and Canada. This trip is usually only once annually, with other towing trips being 10- 100 miles several times a year in MI. Since the 4:30 gears were only a $50 option, I took the performance, however 3:55 gears would be considered if gas went back to $4.00 a gallon. My overall driving is approximatly 70% highway. It would not be cheap, to change out the front and rear gears, approximately $1,500. Mileage would need to be considerably better to offset the additional cost and reduced performance. I really love the truck, currently averaging approximatley 12 miles per gallon with 2100 miles on the truck. Have not towed with the truck yet, but I am sure it will perform very well with only 7,500 pounds. Looking forward to summer trips. Also considering a tune from 5 Star to improve mileage. Mileage increased from 11 to 12 miles per gallon on the last trip with the same driving conditions. Only gas used is BP. The change to the summer gas formula makes a big difference. I realize this a heavy great truck that will never get great mileage, but improvements are appreciated. A friend of mine purchased a 2009 F-150 4X4 with the 5.4 six speed automatic and is only averaging 15 miles per gallon city/ highway mix.
  2. The 6.2 will not be out until probably the 2011 model. The 2010 superduty Harley-Davidson edition is going to have the V-10, which is a very dependable great motor. I would hesitate to buy a 6.2in a 2010 superduty model if it is available. Let Ford put it into the 2010 F-150 first and work out the bugs.
  3. If you want to turn the 78 into a show truck it does not sound like a bad deal. If you want it as a everyday driver, for $5,000 you can get a nice Ford truck that is at least 20 years newer, with a much better ride and many more options. I just traded in a 1999 f-250 XLT 4X4 light duty for $4,000 miles for a new superduty. The 99 was a great truck with cap, bedrug, skidplates, 4X4 with electronic shift on the fly, limited slip rear axle, auto headlights, anti-lock brakes, air, power windows, locks, curise, tilt wheel, cd player, power seat, clean cloth bench 5.4 liter with 146,000 miles, that did not burn any oil in 2,000 miles. It was purchased new and very well maintained, oil changes every 2,500 miles and trans changes every 25,000 to 30,000 miles. Never a trans or 4X4 problem with over 25,000 miles of towing apprximately 7,000 pounds. Just something to think about, the quality and extra's of a newer vehicle, vs the styling and collectability of an older vehicle. If it was going to use it as a everyday driver, I would go with a newer truck. Just my two cents. By the way, the new V-10 XLT superduty is absolutely the best truck, that I have ever rode in or driven.
  4. I ordered an f-250 XLT, regular cab, 8ft bed, v-10. Have you been manufacturing any of these trucks recently or are you scheduled to in the near future?
  5. Another good source for a tuner is 5startuning.com. They provide the SCTX3 which is available for you 2009 V10. The X3 holds 3 custom tunes of your choice that would be written specifically for your V10. They can run a tune for 87, 89, or 93 octane gas. They claim the drive by wire will also be more aggressive over stock. If you have additional questions you can contact Mike Butler at 5 star tuning. His telephone number is (843) 667-3595. I have a 2009 F-250 V-10 on order and way planning on ordering a tuner from 5 star. If you decide to purchase a tuner from 5 star, please provide me your feedback.
  6. The 6.2 will be released as a 2010 or 2011 as a svt F-150. It will also be used next year by Ford off road racing team.
  7. PS. This is with the 5-speed automatic transmission.
  8. Just ordered an 09 F-250 XLT V-10 dark blue pearl metallic, with the 4.10 limited slip rear end. What rpm's will the truck be running at 75mph? Considering changing to the 3.55 limited slip rear end. What will the rpm's be at 75mph with the 3.55 gear? What do you think the highway mileage would be at 75mph with the 4.10 vs the 3.55 rear end? What will the city mileage be with the 4.10 vs the 3.55? Will the 3.55 gear be satisfactory for towing 7,000 pounds? What will the performance difference be with the 3.55 vs the 4.10 empty and towing 7,000 ponds? Should I just stay with the 4.10 rear end?
