I guess I should do my part to keep this old thread going.
I don't care what they call it as long as they bring it to the US. Sadly the Fiesta is only coming to the US as a 4 and 5 door. WTF, what happened to those cool 2 doors concepts that they teased us with. I decided not to wait for the 2 door and bought an 09 Focus Coupe. I like the Focus, but would rather have the MPG's as I commute 100 miles a day.
BTW my experience with Escorts has been less than stellar. I have owned a 94 Escort Wagon, a 95 Tracer Wagon, a 95 Escort Wagon, and a 99 ZX2. The 94 went 150+ before the head cracked. The Tracer had to have the transmission rebuilt at 80k, It and the 95 wagon both lost timing belts at 64k and 86k respectively. Both 95's soldier on, the 99 had over 170k before a deer finished her off.
Non of these cars can hold a candle to my old 89 Mercury Tracer (Mazda 323 clone). She went 380k before a rusted front end forced her to be parked. The old 1.6l engine still runs great and never had any work done on her. It could hit over 40 mpg and only stranded me once when the alternator went out. I had hoped the Fiesta would replace this car, but I don't like 4 doors except on wagons, and SUV's.
