Ford to offer free updates to boost hybrid vehicle efficiency
keithmcelhinney replied to chuckokie36's topic in Fusion Forum
Can verify that this update rules. Over 10% improvement in MPG on the highway and I drove faster! -
Highway I get about 43mpg driving between 70 and 80mph. This i with no ac, windows slightly open. AC drops me 1-2 mpg depending. Now my highway is a ton of hills/mountains so take that into account. If I just drive it without caring about mileage it will get 39-40. Around town I usually get AT LEAST 47mpg. Average tank I get 44-45 with more highway than city driving. Expect in winter to lose 10-15% minimum for winter gas and temps. -K

19" H-Spoke wheels on Hybrid Titanium?
keithmcelhinney replied to Former Expedition owner's topic in Fusion Forum
For you guys wanting a LRR tire and can't find them, these tires are coming out in more sizes (including 19s already and 20s later) and they are LIGHT! http://www.pirelli.com/tire/us/en/car/sheet/cinturato_p7_all_season_plus.html I plan on them for whatever wheels I end up getting. Not easy to find but not expensive and a 70k warranty. One thing to remember is not only the weight of a wheel but where the weight is. A 20" rim that weighs the same as a 17" rim will have more weight further from the center of the wheel. This causes more rotational inertia thus making it a less efficient tire. How much of a difference actually matters as much on how you drive. I heavy wheel will actually roll longer than a light wheel. Braking and accelerating will be worse. So if you are primarily a highway cruiser you might not be affected that much. City driving you will be affected more. -Keith -
Looks like the EPA estimates were right after all....

Since it got warmer out I am getting mid-to-high 40s. Not on the highway for extended periods but when going under 65mph.. -
It is definitely a stupid move me not reading the whole thing, but look at this email and tell me that you wouldn't assume without reading the whole thing that it would cover hybrids..

The dealer is working on getting the money from Ford but discussed other options as well. The deal is already done so I don't have the option to make them eat it. I could just not pay them but that isn't right. Considering they sold me the car at cost and gave me almost $3k more for my car than what it is worth I will take it. I want to do some customizing of the car and I think they will do the labor for me for free and maybe some oil changes/etc. They have been very good to me and there is no way I am going to screw them. Just nervous about the oil thing.. -Keith

Well I picked up my fusion saturday after an almost 4 month wait. Used my $750 private offer and $500 cash back. Got a call yesterday that the private offer didn't cover hybrids so I have to write them a $750 check instead of getting it in my loan. Ok sucks but whatever. Today driving in to work (200 miles, don't ask) the Low Oil Pressure light keeps coming on. Check the oil and it is full. Awesome. Now I have to get my car fixed when I am not at home and have no backup transportation or anything. Hopefully I will get a loaner, but I leave on thursday... Before everyone starts yelling to screw the dealer, the dealer gave me an UNBELIEVABLE deal because of a previous car I bought from them that sucked. I will not screw them over. Could they have been a little more careful with the paperwork? Yes. But I showed up to get my car when I wasn't supposed to and they rushed to fit me in. The dealer has been great. Not psyched on the private offer thing and that is Ford's fault. I get an email that is completely hybrid related and the coupon says in small print that it isn't applicable to hybrids. I have a case in with Ford about it... -Keith
-
Well just found out the coupon I got isn't for hybrids! DAMN! I picked up my car on Saturday and they just put the $750 in and emailed me today that it wasn't valid. So psyched to have to come up with $750 out of my pocket... -Keith

The weird part is that the dealer was really great at getting me a deal because of the previous car I had and the problems. Nice easy sale, great to deal with. The finance girl is the one throwing a hissey fit. First told me that they didn't know what to do with the approval letter from Bank of America. Then I sent it to her and explained that they are supposed to be an authorized dealer, etc and then they finally figured it out. The biggest thing is that I have to get my taxes done tomorrow and I have a small business and regular employment so they are a nightmare. Besides, who wants to waste their weekend sitting in a car dealership? I already did everything just give me the damn car! -Keith

So my car finally made it after 3.5 months. Dealer called and I told them I wanted to pick it up at 9:00am tomorrow. Then he proceeds to tell me that they have too many deliveries tomorrow morning and could I do 1:00? I can't do 1:00 because the dealer is an hour away and I have an appointment to get my taxes done. So I am just going to go at 9:00 and sit and wait. So freaking stupid. I travel for work and if I can't get it tomorrow it will be a week from monday before I can get it... All my financing is done. I signed the sales agreement already. I told them a week ago to figure out my payoff and everything else so I could just walk in and walk out. Did they do any of it? Seem not... -Keith

I am looking for 18". Don't want to kill my hybrid mileage with 19s. I would love a sub 20lb wheel. The forged and 2 piece tsw wheels were about 20 I believe...
-
I would love to see a inexpensive light wheel for the fusion. Can we convince TSW to make the Mirabeau for our cars? You have any pull for wheels?

Well I ordered 12/1 and it is finally in transit. Supposed to be here the end of next week. Close to 4 months... -Keith

19" H-Spoke wheels on Hybrid Titanium?
keithmcelhinney replied to Former Expedition owner's topic in Fusion Forum
There are not any LRR tires in 19s. That is why they don't put 19s on the Hybrid... -
If you have the time I would appreciate it if you could locate my car. Dealer number - 16655 Order number - 1465 If you can't find the order number it could be wrong. Dealer said "I believe the order number is 1465" so I apologize if it is wrong. Thanks again for providing this service. Hope you had a great vacation! -Keith

There are a bunch of reasons why you would get much worse gas mileage in the cold. Your battery will be depleted more definitely. You turn on the heat. The engine is cold so the tolerances are tighter. The engine being cold is more than likely why people who take short trips are getting horrible gas mileage out and good when they come back (if it hasn't been too long). Also realize that all of the oil is sitting in the pan and when the engine is cold it is tighter causing more friction. I personally always let my present car (elantra) warm up a bunch before I drive it. Otherwise it gets really bad mileage even once it is warm. If my car ever arrives I will probably still let my car warm up in the winter. I don't take too many short drives either. -Keith

Since ford switched their bolt pattern to 5x108 for the 2013 I can find no wheels I like that don't weigh a ton! Thought I finally found what I wanted and they have no plans to support the bolt pattern! If they stayed at the old pattern you would have SO many more rims to choose from! DAMN YOU! Ok I feel better now.. -Keith

Shaggy I see you have the G2 Integra! Loved that car (I had 3)! Well my dealer said I should expect it next week. I just did my financing through Bank of America and got a 2.4% rate! Whoop! -Keith

The dealer was supposed to get me my order number this week but didn't. He said he thought it was being built this week but I need the order number or the VIN to track it. I will ask again tomorrow. Got the same setup as yours but in impact blue... Really congrats on the car! Can't wait to get mine. Saw a blue non-hybrid one at dairy queen last night and had to just go out and stare at it... -Keith
