  1. Ford is preparing to unveil the refreshed versions of the Chinese-market Equator and Equator Sport midsize SUVs, three years after their debut. These mechanically-related models, manufactured in China through the JMC-Ford joint venture, adopt updated styling elements alongside a new plug-in hybrid configuration.

The 2025 Ford Equator and Equator Sport have yet to be officially unveiled, but we have early access to their photos and specifications thanks to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Both SUVs benefit from redesigned fronts, making it easier to distinguish between them.

Well Navigator did get a refresh recently which I think helped the style a lot.  I think 2 things are hurting it currently.  1 reliability issues, I have seen a lot of posts on forums and groups about people having issues with the 10 speed and other electrotonic gremlins, and 2 the lack of air suspension.  Escalade and Grand Wagoneer both offer air suspension and Navigator is right in line with their pricing.  Otherwise it's not far off feature wise from the other 2 but as I have stated in other threads there are things I still want them to add.

I also remember reading that Louisville puts more emphasis on Ford Trucks coming out of that plant than the Expedition and Navigator.  I don't know how true that is, but I have always heard production is constrained on it.

yeah it got a refresh in 2022 but it seems it isn't enough, but as you say I think the biggest problem is reliability, the weak point of Ford.

Air suspension is a MUST for the 2025 model.

Probably expensive with no deals available.

Could be, maybe the focus is not sales but revenue per vehicle?

It's an expensive, thirsty suv being sold at a time when the economy is in the toilet and gas is expensive.

I don't know if people with that kind of money worry about it. Look the Escalade sales.

I guess it needs a replacement asap because it hasn't benn updated in a while

  6. THREE-ROW FORD EXPLORER EV DELAYED DUE TO BATTERY COST

Early last month, FoMoCo announced that it was delaying the production start date of both the three-row Ford Explorer EV for North America (not the existing European model), as well as the next-generation Ford F-150 EV pickup. At the time, the reasoning behind this decision was simple – the automaker wants to focus on getting smaller, cheaper EVs to market first, starting with a $25k crossover riding on a new, low-cost platform that’s set to launch in 2026. However, when speaking during the automaker’s Q1 2024 earnings call with investors, CEO Jim Farley also revealed that something else played a role in the delay of the Ford Explorer EV, specifically.

“And we’re being very consistent about our discipline on profitability. We expect every one of our EVs to make money in the first 12 months, and that is a very disciplined process,” Farley said. “In fact, we delayed the launch of our three-row crossover, which is a great product, two years, not only to match the slower growth in EV but more importantly to take advantage of new battery chemistry and formats to substantially reduce the cost of the batteries for that vehicle. We’ll do everything it takes to be profitable in the first 12 months of our vehicles.”

The forthcoming North American Ford Explorer EV is slated to be produced at the Oakville Assembly plant in Canada, and the retooling of that same facility is set to begin soon following the end of Ford Edge production. That process will still move on as previously expected, but Ford’s decision to delay the production start date of the Explorer EV drew the ire of the Canadian union Unifor, which is working with the automaker to mitigate the impact of this two-year delay on its workers there.

  7. FORD POSTS ALL-TIME MONTHLY HYBRID SALES RECORD

    image.thumb.png.618d197ac9a839eb4f490bcb4bbab888.png

Customer reception to Ford hybrid vehicles continues to accelerate, with U.S. sales reaching 17,997 in April, a 60 percent improvement from the same month a year ago and a new monthly record.

Sales of the new F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid set a new monthly record in April – up 93.6% – making F-150 Hybrid America’s top-selling full-size hybrid pickup. Early customers of the new 2024 model are overwhelmingly choosing to upgrade to the available 7.2kW Pro Power Onboard feature, which brings power to a jobsite, tailgate party, or power appliances during a power outage.

So far this year, Maverick Hybrid is the best-selling hybrid pickup overall; customers bought 26,061 Maverick Hybrid trucks over the first four months of 2024. Most of those customers – 59% – are coming from other brands and segments, notably trading in their small SUVs for a Maverick.

Please stop posting these ridiculous loss per vehicle figures.  Ford lost $1.3B because of future investments and it wouldn’t have mattered how many Mach-Es and Lightnings they sold.  Designing and engineering 7-8 new vehicles plus new factory designs along with new batteries and manufacturing techniques are extremely expensive and generate zero revenue.

I just posted it to talk about it, because I agree with you that it is a weird vision about all of this.

As you say the 1.3b considers not only the current offer of vehicles but all the investments made

  9. Ford Motor Company revealed this week that it lost more than a hundred thousand dollars for every electric vehicle that it sold during the first quarter.

Ford’s electric vehicle unit reported a $1.3 billion loss, amounting to a $132,000 loss per electric vehicle sold during the first three months of the year, CNN reported.

The company saw a 20% decrease in sales volume and, because of low demand for electric vehicles across the industry, was forced to slash the prices of its electric vehicle offerings.

Ford said that it expects its electric vehicle division to lose $5 billion this year, an increase of $300 million from the $4.7 billion loss that it suffered last year.

“Americans don’t want EVs at levels Biden’s climate hysteria require,” businessman Andrew Puzder posted on X. “Ford’s EV Q1 losses soared to $1.3 billion — a ridiculous $132,000 per EV sold. All Ford’s profits came from combustion engine vehicle sales. Collectivist policies destroy prosperity.”

The company announced earlier this month that it was delaying the production of two new electric vehicles and that it will instead focus on making more hybrid vehicles as consumer demand for electric vehicles continues to plummet.

“Many companies rushed in too fast with E.V.s that were too expensive and there was not as much of a market for them as they thought,” Sam Abuelsamid, principal analyst for transportation and mobility at the research firm Guidehouse Insights, told the The New York Times. “That’s made it a lot tougher to sell those vehicles.”

Lincoln only builds what dealers order although they can dictate some product mixes.  So it’s more likely dealers aren’t ordering correctly.

But don’t forget price.   Mach-e was selling poorly until they lowered the price.  Things like that are temporary.

So there is a problem in the dealers, lack of knowledge about the customers it seems.

Price is always a factor but I think it is a bit less relevant in the luxury segment, for example, the Escalade and Range Rover each year are more expensive but these vehicles are selling vey well.

IMO it is more related to the multiple recalls (reliability) and brand recognition because the latest product are good in paper but if they have problems it is going to be real difficult to get more sales.

Yet Q1 sales are up 31% over last year and the new Nautilus is just trickling in.  Stop blindly believing statistics without all the data.  High inventory levels will I crease time to turn even with strong sales.  It could also be driven by one vehicle.  That’s why you need more context.

The inverse is time to turn could be super low because you can’t get enough vehicles and sales could be very low.

Or in stock vehicles are selling slow but many are doing special orders.

    Lies, damn lies and statistics.

yeah, but also the fact that sales are up can be a little bit deceiving because last year wasn't a good year in terms of sales.

IMO is something to keep an eye on but as you say we need all the data.

The thing is as you say, it seems to be driven by one vehicle, the Navigator, both the regular and L models are on the list.

The other problem is if the stock is selling slow, Lincoln doesn't know their customers and started to manufacture models that aren't what the customers are going after

  12. It might be time for alarm bells at Lincoln, says iSeeCars

Lincoln landed the “top spot” among slow-selling brands, taking an average of 82.6 days to move inventory. Infiniti wasn’t much better, at 79.8 days, and Buick came third with 79 days to sell.

    Slowest-selling new cars of 2024

    1. Lincoln: 82.6 days to sell
    2. Infiniti: 79.8
    3. Buick: 79

It will be interesting to see if the lower half folds down or if it folds up like a traditional liftgate (similar to the '03-'05 Explorer).  Especially on a vehicle this large with a massive third row cargo area, the flip down approach will make it harder to reach further into the vehicle.

A screen does not make an interior.  You're acting like you know every single item will be identical and swap out badges.

2025 Ford Expedition Spy Shots Show Dashboard-Spanning Screen

This is the Expy's interior.  We unfortunately haven't seen Navigator's yet, but we do know that Lincoln uses a more horizontal theme, and has elements like the piano shifter buttons, which means the entire dash beneath the screen can and likely will be completely unique.  I'd imagine Navigator's interior will take cues from the Nautilus look with the full width horizontal vent, and a lot of the detailing seems to match the look of the Star concept, which will give a completely unique look vs. Expy.  Let's not panic before seeing it.

I agree that a screen doesn’t make the interior, but considering that in this case the screen is that big, it kinda does.

Also, I am not acting like that, I’m just saying that it doesn’t make any sense IMO to share the same screen layout.

sadly we haven’t seen the Navi interior but it is very likely like the one on the Nautilus.

aside from the vents, it seems very similar to the one on the spy pics, also take into account that now the rotatory shifter seems to be near the screen, in a position similar to the push bottom transmission from the Nautilus is.

but as you say, let’s wait

The expedition and navigator hasn't shared an interior since 2003, gm followed suit a generation later.  Gm and just about every other automaker usually follows fords lead In Regards to trends.  That said, the denali didn't get a diff Interior from its counterparts until 2021.  The escalade may look different, but it uses way more "shared parts" than the nav does to the expy, yet people feel the interior is better.  People won't care if they share the same set up so much as they feel special.  I'll wait until they are released to complain, but if ford is charging  $90k to get in a platinum, I would prefer if it gave me nav vibes.

Yeah, that has been the case since 2003, but then again, why change it now?

i think that people do care, IMO there are different segments but as you say, let’s wait for the releases.
