2016 Explorer Sport died (104k)
fluffyneenja replied to fluffyneenja's topic in Explorer, Mountaineer, Sport Trac Forum
I'm still in touch with the guy who purchased it. He has it at the mechanic. Mechanic said most of the bearings on the cams were damaged. He believes the water pump leaked and got into the oil pan and diluted the oil. Meh...sure, maybe. I thought the coolant leaks were external. Not sure how it could've leaked into the oil pan. -
2016 Explorer Sport died (104k)
fluffyneenja replied to fluffyneenja's topic in Explorer, Mountaineer, Sport Trac Forum
It was regularly serviced at Jiffy Lube with synthetic oil. I think I just changed my oil within the last 6 months. I'm looking now. Trust me, I babied the vehicle. The PTU fluid is considered a "lifetime" fluid. I haven't checked my last service notes, but I wondering if the dealerships even check those. I live in the southwest where it's warm and dry. Seals dry and crack over time. Even so, I'm guessing it was never serviced/checked. I could be wrong. -
It's almost a joke, but unfortunately as soon as my 2016 Ford Explorer Sport, 3.5L EcoBoost hit 100K miles (odometer = 104296.9), it "fell apart". First the seal of the PCU (trasnfer case) dried out and ate itself. At the same time that was being replaced, one turbo was bad. Within 2 weeks of getting it back from the shop the second turbo went out. Within 1 month of that the engine went. I don't have an answer what happened to the engine, but I thought the turbo went out again, it sounded like a penny in the dryer. I immediately drove it to the Ford dealer. They pull the valve cover and discovered some "scoring". Then they pulled the oil filter, cut it open, and found metal parts, including brass shards(?). So, if you're going to extend the warranty...I'd make it longer than 100K. Up until then I had minimal issues. I sold it with a broken engine for about 1/4 what it was worth on KBB and that's it for my Ruby. I spoke with another friend who stated almost the same thing happened to them last year. I'm gonna try another company because engines going at 100K should be a joke...not the standard.

2017 Explorer Colors
fluffyneenja replied to rcb117's topic in Explorer, Mountaineer, Sport Trac Forum
I can't believe they wouldn't spray the Explorer, especially Sport, with that "Lightning Blue". Actually, I'm glad, my wife would have me trade in my Ruby Red for it. -
Extended Warranty '16 Explorer Sport
fluffyneenja replied to fluffyneenja's topic in Explorer, Mountaineer, Sport Trac Forum
Thanks akirby. I appreciate it a ton. My dad used to work for dealerships doing finance back in the 70's and 80's and always told me that EW's were a gimmick. I'll research. Thank you for the info. -

Adaptive Cruise Control. Yes or No?
fluffyneenja replied to fluffyneenja's topic in Global Ford Products
Thanks for the responses. I think I'm going to err on the side of, 'better to have it and not need it than want it and not have it'. -
Is the adaptive cruise control awesome or junk? I'm about to purchase a new 2016 Ford Explorer and if the ACC works well, I may think about purchasing the option. I'd love to hear from the community. Thanks.

Are you going to be one of the few people in EU to own a Mustang? My buddy owns a Aston Martin, it's beautiful and it's unique enough to really stick out. I figure it will be somewhat the same for you.

2015 or 2016 what to choose?
fluffyneenja replied to HRT's topic in Explorer, Mountaineer, Sport Trac Forum
If you can get 2015 for $300 below invoice or better, it's a good deal. If not, you can get about $300 below invoice with the x-plan. I've put a deposit on a 2016, many more bells and whistles, plus updated entertainment console is a big selling point. -
My personal x-plan experience. x-plan = 0.4% over invoice. Roughly, just over $200 over invoice. Ford currently has a $500 cash incentive. This brought the price about $350 below invoice. You cannot haggle because it's a set price by Ford. I tried to haggle hard once and that ended that conversation. A-plan is probably the best deal you can get from the numbers I've seen.

2016 Explorers. Are they being shipped yet?
fluffyneenja replied to HRT's topic in Explorer, Mountaineer, Sport Trac Forum
Albuquerque dealer got one yesterday. I'm waiting on mine. Hopefully within a month. -
I'm sure there are a couple ways to get an x-plan pin #. PM me if you need a way to get a pin.

Just placed my deposit down on a new 2016 Ford Explorer Sport and have officially joined the blue oval team. I hope to do some learning and maybe help out when I can with this forum. Thank you!
