The "rich" already paying at a higher rate per dollar is not enough? I am always amazed at those that can actually bring themselves to think this way. It's absurd, and you would be the first one bitching if in that position yourself. Most of these folks have created thousands of good paying jobs and should bear no true responsibility for the fact that our gov't has yet to provide a universal health care system. Unfortunately at current standard, that doesn't exist, but that should not necessarily be passed on as an obgligation to the employers. If it did, than they should have the rights to limit peoples lifestyles and we both know the possibilities of passing that one off. Bottom line, people get rich through their successful ability to manage and run companies. They need not be punished for this ability, period!

With our current system, the burden of health care has become so great that employers are now looking to pass these cost off on to it's employees. Maybe universal health care is the answer, although I don't see any politicians standing behind a bill that would dismantle an industry that generates so many campaign contributions!

If they were to really sock it to the rich in taxes, the extra revenue wouldn't amount to a hill of beans. All that it would do is kill the American dream. Why kill yourself trying to get rich if it is going to be taxed away? Socialists love to see people like Martha Steward and Paris Hilton who pay more taxes in one month than they pay in their whole lives led off to the guillotine. It just makes me sick. We should take over Cuba, keep it Communist, and send them all there.

So, how does stifling ambition and taxing income help the common people secure wages? It' just like the argument that illegals want to pay taxes. As if we should ignore unemployment of citizen because illegals want to pay taxes!

We should take over Cuba. Keep it Communist. Everyone should have to live there for one year as part of their education. Instead of being brainwashed by hippie arts professors, they would see what Communism is really like.

for the most part i agree with you..however if they raise taxes to undo what mr bush has done, so ? it wont affect me that much....i mean people that make 40-80$ it really doesn't matter...and the other upper 250$ + they can afford to give more....so raise it up...

They do pay more! It's called a percentage of your gross! Why do you want to punish people for achievement, hard work, advancing themselves in the workplace, successfull entrepreneur etc etc? The true victims are the middle class earners without all the write offs that many have. It amazes me how many people feel it is OK for others to pick up more of the burden than them yet will bitch moan and cry if it is done to them. Why should I pay more in tax than someone who earns the same as me because they chose to have 4 kids? Why should I pay for someone else's kids to go to school? Why does that family who paid less in tax than me get a refund and go on vacation when I can't afford it? Why should I watch someone use my tax money to buy groceries then pay cash for dog food, booze and cigarettes?

These are the things that make it unfair not that you earned 60k and paid 6k and the guy who earned 600k paid 60k.

FLAT TAX!

Single and 0, paying up to 41% in tax on OT checks, hell the feds took 32k. Annual gross was 130k with OT.

Something is wrong with those numbers! Only bonus checks are taxable at 42% The highest tax bracket for earned income is 38%. 130,000 is a good wage though. I wish I could say the same!

You my friend are very uneducated. Warren Buffett did an interview last month and said. It was wrong that his secretary paid more in income taxes as a percentage of income than he does. This is a man worth over $40 billion dollars. He is totally against Bushs tax cuts. Also why should Bill Gates get the use of tax dollars in creating his software programs, and tax dollars that built the internet. But he shouldnt pay more in taxes? He benefited the greatest from tax dollars. Lets say there were no taxes. There wouldnt be Dept. of Defense and the internet would have never been created. Would Bill be the richest person in the world? This Neo-Liberal economy if successful will fail. We need to tax the rich who are creating these jobs without health care benefits, better yet lets compete as a country and get a single payer health care system put in place. A basic need of all in the world but in America it is only going to the rich and the ones lucky enough to have employer paid health.

What he is implying is that she pays too much...not that he pays too little.

anyone who doesnt have a corporate health care plan can get government healthcar. if they make over a certain amount, they must pay. whats wrong with that? healthcare isnt free, the ONLY way to keep costs down is to keep it competitive..if the government takes over managing your health (which alone should scare everyone off) then the lack of competition will foster the growth of a bureaucracy the likes of which this country has never seen.

besides...universal healthcare could be passed only on on extremely shaky constitutional grounds, at best.

Here is an example:

Straight time. 68 Fica. 200.93

OT. 26.5 Medic. 47

Shift Prem. 2.53 Fed. 750.03

Holiday. 8 State. 165.36

Total. 1163.32

Gross. 3240.93

Minus tesphe 221.33

Taxable Income 3019.60

OK I was off a bit but 38.5% is still too much.

And if you didnt get a helluva refund, then something smells like shit here. The only way Feds could get that kind of $$ is if you had NO deductions. Nada, cero,zero,nil.....No mortgage, no prop.taxes, no state income taxes, obviously yer not a charitable donation guy. I guess you might need to get rid of the crack ho' and invest in real estate. And get a new tax guy too.

THAT's awfully funny how the guy that made 600K cant 'afford' things because he paid 60K in taxes....what is 60K to a guy that made 600K? almost about 6K to a guy that made 60K!

how are they picking up more of the burden ? if you make more, you pay more taxes ! how hard is that ? you are paying a percentage of your wages....

it amazes me how stupid people actually are....

TESHPE is a choice, not a tax. And, by those numbers, you would have your FICA paid off in 28 weeks.

Lesson here is to either:

1. Stop working so much overtime.

2. Buy a house for the tax incentives

3. Have some kids.

4. Stop bellyaching about the money you make, because teachers barely make anything.

I did not include the tesphe in the calculation!

I did not complain about how much I earned!

Having children as a tax right off is just plain wrong. Why should someone else pay for your children's education?

Why does a person who chooses not to have a mortgage deserve to pay a higher % in tax?

Why does a person who works more hours or 2 jobs deserve to pay a higher % in tax?

I never said anything about the 600k earner not being able to afford anything.

It seems you agreed with my comments, of course the 600k pays more than the 60k my point is it is only fair if the % is equal.

Everyone has to pay for public education children or not because, at some point you will depend on these children for goods and or services! The government offers tax incentives to home owners because they spend money on materials and workers to maintain their property, keeping people employed. Lastly, people who make more can afford to pay more still realizing the fruits of there labor. Just because you pay more tax doesn't mean you don't net more than a guy who makes $30,000 less than you. Some people will always be broke no matter how much they make. If you can't afford a vacation making $130,000 than you don't know how to handle money and make too many obligation. Let me guess your the only blue collar worker that lives in your neigborhood! Are you surrounded by doctors and lawyers trying to maintain their life style? It sounds like your living beyond your means. No wounder people hate auto workers. Tell someone who makes $10.00 an hour that never had a vacation your problems, see how much sympathy you get! If you wish to criticize our government on how they spend our tax money then I'm with you 100% but, I don;t agree with your idea of a flat tax.

You totally misinterpreted what I was trying to convey. Of course when I make 130k I can afford a vacation. My point was how about 2 guys who make the same (average income) but 1 has 3 children and is married while the other is not and has no children..

The tax incentive I was refering to was not "home owner" but "mortgage interest". Even so what tax incentives make owning a home a worthwhile investment?

FAIR = FLAT TAX, SAME % FOR ALL.

I live in a 1100 sq ft house in a blue collar neighborhood.

A teachers starting salary is $24,000 a year, And yes I know with time and continuing your education you can greatly increase you pay as a teacher!

Sorry you missed that figure by about 20k, these are 2002 figures.

http://www.govspot.com/lists/teachersalaries.htm

The American Federation of Teachers issues a Teacher Salary Trends report each year to survey the pay levels of U.S. educators. In 2001-2002, the average teacher salary was $44,367.

A flat tax is a regressive tax that only hurts the poor. Plus the rich would never go for it because they wouldnt be able to hide their money in tax shelters. Its pretty fuckup that you think your special because you make more than the majority of the pouplation. What most blue collar workers earn at Ford is because of the union and a chance to have a job. There are many people working at Wal-Mart, Target, Mickie D's and other places that could do what we do but were never giving the chance. Maybe one day working people will start sticking together and create a better life for the masses, not just the lucky or wealthy.

Did I say starting? But since you did 03-04 was 31,704 "average starting". Yes they should get paid more, I agree.

The American Federation of Teachers, a national teacher’s union, publishes an annual survey of teacher’s salaries across America, including detailed information for every state. According to the AFT, beginning teachers with a bachelor’s degree earned an average of $31,704 in the 2003–04 school year. Some of the other facts identified in the most recent AFT survey:

From 1994 to 2004, average teacher salaries, when adjusted for inflation, dropped in 22 states.

The average beginning teacher salary in the 2003-04 school year was $31,704, up just 1.1% from the previous year.

Since 1988, there has been only one year, 2001-02, in which teacher salaries have outpaced inflation by more than 1.1%.

Connecticut had the highest average teacher salary at $56,516, while South Dakota reported the lowest at $33,236.

I lose my job at Ford next week but then again I was making $24 an hour prior to Ford and still paying what I consider more than my fair share. Even when I made $8 an hour I paid more than my fair share. I educated myself and progressed in my chosen field prior to Ford and if anyone at Wal Mart or Mickie D's as you put it can do my job then they are where they are because they want to be or transitioning. Perhaps they can do your job but mine I doubt.

I want some of you to ask a divorced guy in your plant that pays child support but has to claim Single and 0 and does not get to use the children as dependants on his taxes how he feels.

Do you not realize that the working middle class gets phucked here? My Tax preparer (retired IRS) told me if only you made less or more you would be better off tax wise. How is that fair?
