I am looking @ 2007 Ford Edge SEL+. The VIN # is RFMDK49C47BB68082. The sticker is $34,800. The dealership came down to 31,000 less my trade which they say they allowed 14,000 for my 2004 Honda CR-V EX with 61,000 miles. This is what the numbers looked like. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A GOOD DEAL????

$31,000

- 14,000

=17,000

+ 510.00 tax

+ 279.00 doc fee

+ 76.50 Tag/transfer fee

= 17,865.50

- 4,000 rebate

+ 5,500 owed on trade in

TOTAL - $19,365.50

Thats not bad for a 2007. Is that price after any negotiations or is that what they layed out on the table for you?

I forgot to add the owner of the dealership got in the mix and came down another $750 just by me asking about other people I knew that had gotten the certificates in the mail. So that would put me @ financing roughly $18,615. I am also going to ask for the remote starter to be installed and a windshield bug deflector since there are a couple of options on the vehicle I don't care for.

So what do you think? I am also going to wait until the end of the month because I know they really want to get this 2007 off of the lot!

Well at this point, they really want to get it off the lot. But yeah, since it has a few options on it that you really don't care for, make it clear to them that its not quite the car you're looking for but tell them you'll sign the bill of sale RIGHT NOW if you install bug deflector and a remote start. Also, I wouldn't wait til the end of the month because they hate when they have to wait, so the sooner you go through it, the better the deal you can get. The only way the deal could get better is when 2009's start coming to the dealerships, but until then, thats about as good as it gets.

Tell me how it goes.

I talked to the owner today and asked him about the remote starter - he said he didn't suggest even the dealership installing it because of the warranty. What do you think?

I am going to tell them I want the bug deflector and splash guards.

That doesn't make sense. If the dealership installs the Ford system it should be covered under warranty.

I would think so too! I am going to have to ask around and make sure about that because if it is covered under warranty, then I want them to include that in the deal.

Otherwise, do you think that is a good deal on the price?

Its hard for me to judge because I live in Canada and our cars cost more....for some unknown reason. From what I see it seems to be OK. Your paying less than 2/3 of the price, so it looks good to me.

Hi christie. :D The "Owner" is mistaken. You have a full 3 year/36,000 mile warranty coverage (under the Ford "Bumper to Bumper Warranty") if you have your Ford Dealer install a Ford Accessory Remote Starter System as part of the new car purchase (installed at/before time of purchase).

If you wait until after you purchase the vehicle, your Remote Starter system will not be covered under the 3 year/36,000 mile "Bumper to Bumper Warranty". If you wait until after purchase, I believe you only have a 1 year/12,000 mile warranty.

As to your price, it is not a bad price. Ideally, you could possibly get it a little lower, but bickering and negotiating can get aggravating and reach the point of diminishing returns. If you are satisfied, be happy. If not, negotiate a little more. Maybe get them to throw in Remote Starter.

Remember, if you want it covered under the Ford "Bumper to Bumper" Warranty, it has to be the "Ford Accessory Remote Starter System".

Good luck! :beerchug:

Alarm system?

Oooops. :hysterical: Brain Cloud. Veeerrry Sleeepy! Remote Starter System. I edited my post and switched Remote Starter for Alarm System. The rest of the information is still correct (and would also be correct for the "Ford Accessory Alarm System").

Thanks for catching that. :redcard:

Yeah, the owner told you that probably hoping you would say, "Okay, if thats the case then I don't want it". But if the dealer installs an OEM Remote Start, then warrenty will not be an issue. Just insist on having it installed not matter what and have it included in the deal.. along with the bug deflector.

Here is what I am going to do - I am going to offer $17,500 with remote starter and bug deflector installed before the sale. All he can do is say no and then he can hopefully meet me in the middle somewhere. Thanks for you help!

Here is my email to the owner - Long but please take time to read and any advice would be appreciated!

Hi again Mr. Glover! It was nice talking to you on Wednesday. Per our phone convesation on 3/12/08, I mentioned to you there are several options on this vehicle that I do care about having such as the 18" wheels, the tow package, the audiophile, sirius satellite radio which total adds up to $1,680.00 worth of stuff I don't really want or need. I do realize that this is what is on the Edge that is on your lot and I want you to know that I will do business with you if you will install the remote starter and you to add a bug deflector to the deal. I found by doing research that if your dealership installs the remote starter before the purchase that it will not void the warranty. Also, keep in mind that this a 2007 model and it has 570 or so miles on it. I would consider that a demo vehicle and think we should be able to negotiate the price more.

On the worksheet we are at $19,365.50 and you have to figure in the extra $750.00 you knocked off -

that puts us @ 18,615.00. I will deal with you for $17,500 and you do the bug deflector and remote starter. Please contact me @ (828) 260-0881 or via email.

Again, thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing back from you.

HIS RESPONSE

Christie,

Your business and time is very important to me. I assure you we are not able to meet the terms you have outlined in your email. While the vehicle is a 2007 it is still considered a new vehicle. In order to meet you offer we would basically loose $2900.00. There are several Ford Dealers in the area with 07 Edge's please shop with them and you will soon see that the proposal you left here with was a great one. Thanks for your continued interest. I would love to earn your business. Thanks!

You may in deed be asking for too much off. You will probably have to go with close to what they have offered you.

That is what I was thinking too! Should I still get them to install the remote starter and beg deflector? KBB MSRP is $31,800 - Invoice is $32,464 - New Car BB value is $30,582 What do you think by looking at my previous numbers above?

It never hurts to ask. As long as you don't get angry and remain reasonable and willing to bargain it should be fine.
