Trimdingman
Logic escapes gun control/ban supporters. Town A: A gun ban is signed into law. Law abiding citizens give up their firearms and never carry concealed weapons Town B: A law requiring all citizens to carry a firearm and take gun safety and shooting courses is signed into law Now let's pretend an armed criminal wants to rob a bank, which town is he going to pick? You don't honestly think this or any other criminal cares about what the gun control laws are signed into law do you? Somebody should start up a company and call it "Be Safe" For a fee, people would carry a tracking device, which would be monitored 24/7 via a Google Earth clone. Anybody would be able to log on and track their whereabouts. If they were to get shot, there would be witnesses. They could wear a hat with a flashing blue light to ward off muggers. The loss of freedom would be more than offset by the safety they would feel. That way, the rest of us could continue to live in danger if we choose. fmccap
Gun sales thriving in uncertain times Americans have cut back on buying cars, furniture and clothes in a tough economy, but there's one consumer item that's still enjoying healthy sales: guns. Purchases of firearms and ammunition have risen 8 to 10 percent this year, according to state and federal data. Several variables drive sales, but many dealers, buyers and experts attribute the increase in part to concerns about the economy and fears that if Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois wins the presidency, he will join with fellow Democrats in Congress to enact new gun controls. Obama has said that he believes in an individual right to bear arms but that he also supports "common-sense safety measures."

Bored of Pisteon
While reading the local rants and raves section of "Craigslist" I happened to stumble across this: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guys, Obama is not even in his government housing and his supporters are already pushing a bill to have all ammunition encoded. If this happens, it will be the first step in taking away our 2nd amendment right to own and use firearms. We need to contact our representatives and let them know our stand on this. THE SCREWS ARE TIGHTENING A LITTLE MORE... Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns?Well, it seems that his minions and allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo! A bill that is being pushed in 18 states: Alabama , Arizona , Indiana , California , Connecticut , Hawaii , Illinois , Indiana , Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carol ina, Tennessee, and Washington requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacturer in a data base of all ammunition sales. They will then know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded. Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011 - (Including hand-loaded ammo). You got to be kidding! Wake UP! Wake up NOW!! They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more! If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your guns!!! To find more about the anti-gun group that is sponsoring this legislation and the specific legislation for each state, go to: http://ammunitionaccountability.org/Legislation.htm BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 2011, A "PRIVATE CITIZEN" OR A RETAIL VENDOR SHALL DISPOSE OF ALL NONCODED AMMUNITION THAT IS OWNED OR HELD BY THE CITIZEN OR VENDOR. Hopefully this will Wake Up some of the people who were charmed by the Master Snake Oil Salesman and will take action by screaming to the top of their lungs at their idiot representatives and senators who are pushing this bill. Please get this to all your mailing list now! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MAKES YOU WONDER DOESN'T IT? My ancesters were on that boat, and also were Aboriginals who arrived about 17,000 years previously. Since that time, different governments have drawn boundaries and tried to rule the people. I see the land as just one land. These boundaries come and go. My people are permanent. You may outlive me, but you will never have my understanding if you stay on your present course. Some of my white ancestors inter-married with Aboriginals. There are now over 40,000 Americans who decended from William Sabin who immigrated around the 1630s. His oldest son, Samuel, married Mary Billington whose father and family were on the Mayflower. Over time, their decendents married into Aboriginals and part Aboriginals. I know my family tree, and I have proven to the Mi'qmaq band that I belong and they issued me a status card. Trimdingman
America was here for the same length of time as Europe, so you can't say that Europe is older. If you are talking about governments, the USA has existed since 1776. Canada has existed since 1867. The present Russia has only existed for a little over a decade. France, in its present form has existed since the beheading of Louis XVI in 1793; or it could be argued that it is a new country since it was liberated from the Nazis in WWII. The same goes for Germany, China, Japan, and most other countries. America is one of the oldest countries in the world. We don't have to be associated with Europe. We have our own nationality and our own people.

Trimdingman
Russia has only been around for a decade or so? WOW I need to read more current events. Yes you should. The USSR does not exist anymore. If you want to compare apples with apples, there was civilization in what we now call Russia before 1991, but it was different. There was civilization in America long before 1776, but it was different. Europeans did not discover America. When they came to America, it was already inhabited, so somebody must have discovered it before they did. Just because they have no historical records of events in America before they arrived doesn't mean that nothing happened and there is no history. Back when the Greeks were fighting the Persians there were un-recorded historical events occuring in America, also. What I am saying is that the title "American" or "Canadian" is just as prestigious as "French" or "English". If you are American, you don't have to be "from" somewhere else. My bloodline goes back far enough to be declared pure American. Even if it doesn't, if you feel more American in your heart than you do some other nationality, you are American. I don't care what people call themselves. I just don't like it when they try to label me. I know what I am.
