Ford Makes More Gains in Quality

Recommended Posts

Quality comes from spending money on robots, computers and the entire QC system.

Quality comes from people.

People do final assembly, people engineer subassemblies, and people do QC inspections.

When these people are managed properly, they will produce quality products.

One of the bad ol Detroit ideas was that people interfere with quality.

You have never seen the box secure robots in our plant then. They were put in to replace two workers...Now when the robots run we have those two people down there as well as IT guys and trades to make sure the box is being secured correctly.

I would rather not make a judgement on what people make quality cars and what people make shit cars. Ford has proven, whether their cars are made in Mexico, Detroit or Germany, they can build quality cars.

Labour cost savings can allow for more time spent in quality control. An educated work force can reduce the cost of bringing in highly paid management and technical employees. If a company has a good relationship with the employees, they will do a good job.

It is the system that builds quality. Yes you are right that people design the system. It is upper management that decides which systems to implement.

Saying people build quality can be missinterpreted when talking about Mexico. I would rather say corporate culture builds quality.
