  1. Yes, build a 1.3L I-3 Eco-boost. Then build a 2.6L I-6 Eco-boost for Lincoln and F-150.
  2. I would think that the B, C, and CD will continue on separate platforms, but there is no reason why new techniques and technology can't be developed to be shared on all platforms. In other words, 3 platforms that share a lot of the same engineering and some of the same parts.
  3. Yeah, nitrogen is not a fuel. Nitrogen is what you have left after you remove the oxygen from air. Except that you need extra energy to cool and compress it into a liquid. In this case case it would be easier just to use water instead of liquid nitrogen. It would be called a steam engine.
  4. I like the idea of using Propane (LPG) instead. It has higher energy density. Rather that slowly pumping natural gas under high pressure, Propane can transferred very quickly as a liquid and stored under much lower pressure. I assume that when it is a liquid, Propane requires much smaller and lighter tanks than natural gas. Best of all, Propane can be manufactured from natural gas; you just add water and some heat.
  5. So how does the Focus DCT rate after the software fix?
  6. I have a copy of the same chart but could not find where is saved it. I did a Google search on some terms used in the chart and found the source. http://www.greencarcongress.com/2009/12/ecoboost-20091220.html
  7. This makes much more sense. This is the type of thing that I was suspecting, but it was not stated.
  8. This makes no sense to me. It is the heat in the exhaust that pushes both the piston during the power stroke and pushes the turbo. If you cool the exhaust, then you lose pressure. Either I don't understand what she is saying, she does not understand it (unlikely since she has an engineering background), or she is holding back some technical facts to keep them from the competition. I would love to know more details.
  9. I have driven the VW I5. I find them rough running and they make an odd sound. I have driven many big I4's and I could not tell that they were not a V6. I would rather have a big I4.
  10. I have driven both the Cruze and the Fiesta. The Cruze is much, much bigger, smoother and very, very quiet. If the Focus is better than the Cruze, then it would have no problem competing with the Fiesta.
  11. Bigger is usually better in the buyers eye. The fact that they are more expensive and may make steering more precise, allows automakers to charge a good markup on them.
  12. If you take an Explorer and changed both the exterior and the interior, then you would have an all new vehicle, not a Lincoln version of the Explorer. Such a vehicle would be a good idea but someone would have to determine what the exterior should look like.
  13. The auto industry goes into crisis every ten years. IMHO, 10 years from now, Ford will be debt free with cash in the bank. GM will be bailed out again, but this time by the Chinese.
  14. GM is a gamble. You could make or lose big bucks in the short-term just from the IPO. Long-term, you don't know who the owners and the management will be. Ford is the safe bet for the long-term. You know that the Ford family will control it and that Bill Ford will make sure that it will have the best management for as long as he is alive. You also know that Ford has a plan that is working.
  15. I suspect that the Escape will be mostly Kuga but with a squared off roof line and hood line to look more SUV like. I would not be surprised if the Lincoln is a Kuga with a different grill and upgraded interior. That would make the Lincoln look very different from the Escape but share most parts. Just like the MKT look very different from the Edge but share most parts.
  16. So it weighs just a little more than a Flex AWD. We don't know what type of weight this is. What I mean is that you start with the curb weight, then add fuel and who knows what and you get a much higher weight. I am thinking the real weight is still a secret? This is how I see it: Start with the weight or a Flex 4640 lbs. The Explorer has a shorter wheelbase so -? lbs. The Explorer has aluminum hood, etc -? lbs. The Explorer has a composite Front assembly that is 60% lighter -? lbs. You look at this, it seems like they made a major effort to cut weight. Also consider that the I-4 EcoBoost is design to replace the 3.0L (not the 3.5L) they must have cut some weight to make it perform.
  17. Asbestos only causes cancer if you are confined in a small unventilated room and breath in it's fibrous dust. You must continue to inhale the dust over a long period of time. But you can't be too careful.
  18. The consumer can not afford these Super Cars and I don't think they consider them to be real cars. Anyone can have a super car built for them if they have enough money. I see more value in selling a super Mustang. Something that is already available at an affordable Price. Ford only needs to parade them around to get the publicity.
  19. http://green.autoblog.com/2010/08/11/ford-f-150-engines-for-2011-announced-includes-ecoboost-v6/ Another Link.
  20. If you want to cut costs and improve efficiency, you need a much smaller engine with an 8-speed.
  21. This would require the owners to plug-in their cars every night and every day to get en extra 5 to 7 mpg. Many people would not bother. As I see it, the big benefit to Ford is that they can charge a royalty to any auto maker who wants to use this. There is a move to electrification of the automobile and this is just one step along the way.
  22. Ford applies for patent on non-electric plug-in vehicle http://green.autoblog.com/2010/08/02/ford-applies-for-patent-on-non-electric-plug-in-vehicle/
