Ford, CAW dig in their heels over size of footprint in Canada

Ford and the CAW can't agree on the size of the Canadian footprint.

Here's a simple 2 STEP solution.

1. Ford offers the CAW 1500 IMAGINARY jobs in Oakville

2. Mr. Lewenza gets to save face for throwing St. Thomas under a bus.

FOOTPRINT SAVED

...and a special thanks to Buzz for not dealing with the St. Thomas issue head on. His LIVE to FIGHT another day" should have been called PASS THE BUCK

Don't forget that there are over 1000 on layoff now in Windsor too. We would have first rights to those jobs in Oakville if they would come up before St. Thomas closed. If after it would be by company seniority.

You missed the point of my post.

I was implying a promise of 1500 jobs at Oakville would appease Ken in the short term. Concessions would be accepted and ST. THOMAS would be gone. Long term, the jobs would never materialize.

what if we the members could get the CAW to come up with our own proposal, get it ratified and then toss it on the table and see if Ford would take it more serious... after all... Ford could accept it and everyone is happy. I think it would have to include the 2 tier wage structure they wanted last contract.... plus everything GM and Chrysler got in their concessions agreement. Any thoughts on this???

Dude, you hit the nail right on the head. Anyone who would disagree with what you just wrote, needs a healthy dose of reality. There are a couple of us here that have been talking about the exact same scenario that who have brought up. Amen to the fact that we are not the only ones that see this. the jobs WILL be offered, Lewenza WILL bite at the carrot at the end of the stick, and we WILL all be out looking for work when its all said and done after taking concesssions!!!

Nothing will be decided in Canada until the UAW and Ford settle, thats why Ford cannot guarantee a certain percentage in Canada.

Does anyone really believe that Ford would commit to ANYTHING specific to Canada while AMERICAN autoworkers are looking for product??

That's why our negotiations are "ongoing".

I can see the headlines now...."Ford of Canada is putting a new platform in Oakville and converting the St. Thomas plant to a parts operation. In addition a new family of engines is going to be manufactured in Windsor, these products were slated for the US but Ford likes Canada better and has now increased their footprint by 30%" :hysterical:

Ahhhhhhh, I can see the headlines now.

For as long as UAW and CAW play the game the way Ford wants nothing is going to change. The two unions need to sit down and stop the bleeding otherwise this is going to be a fight among ourselves. The company has put us in situation that if one doesn't do the other will.

Please stop this game and keep our jobs here in north america.
