  1. Windsor Site - Windsor Engine and Essex Engine in one complex. Windsor makes 6.8L V10 . Essex makes the 5.0L V-8 WEP Windsor Engine Plant and EEP Essex Engine Plant are in the same city but are located several miles from each other. The Windsor Engine Plant site has a smaller physically seperated facitlity on site called The Annex which is the third plant in Windsor. The Annex does head machining and will be assembling the future 7.X V10 engine beginning in 2019.
  2. Plant seniority rules job bidding, shift picks, vacation picks, and the same. Corporate seniority (date of hire) determines benefits , number of vacation hours entitlement, pension time and the same.
  3. From what I was told was that there was a controversy with the last canvass. I didn't ask what it was about because it will not affect me. Bob Scott told me they MAY do another canvass. If you have questions speak with your comitteeman or call the hall to get accurate answers.
  4. Everyone in the automotive industry and most industries lost in the last several years. The future contract will be foretold by the UAW/Big 3 negotiations next September. I think they will see substantial gains which will help us the following year.
  5. If you did not have they time in to make the cut then that is you did not qualify. Same thing happened with a few peeps here in Windsor. Will there be more canvas's, it depends on the math. If it is cheaper to have a new hire than you working, then the company will offer incentives. Or maybe you will have to wait until next contract for it to be negotiated.
  6. Is this engine being sourced from Cologne, Germany or are there plans to manufacture it in North America ?
  7. Received the information that I needed. St. Thomas and Windsor transfers called up shortly after retooling shutdown. They may re-canvas for early retirements - there was a controversy with the last canvas - from April 14 to last person hired, OAC will neeed about 900 more people. See you soon at OAC
  8. Voice mail hell again and again. You must have been lucky. I left messages and contact info with Balacz and Scott - let's see if they respond to my questions.
  9. Three week summer shutdown! Sweet. Can you find out when they are calling up the Windsor and St. Thomas transfers. Thanks.
  10. tried that for three days last week. Even called Mangini in HR - voicemail on every try - left messages - no call back yet -#fustrated#noifnfofoyou
  11. Any news from OAC ? I and around 80 other laid off employees are signed up to go to OAC on the next manpower increase. We have been told anywhere from 2cd to 3rd quarter (April to September). I heard a rumour that we will be called up in May. Does anyone have any more concrete information as to when we will be called up. Are your dates for retooling definite yet (March 10 - April 14?) Job 1 date for the next generation Edge? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks
  12. The 2.7 will be made at LIma - the new engine line was installed for this last year. they must be in trial production runs by now. The 5.0 L V8 is made at Essex Engine Plant in Windsor, Ontario with any increase in production being made there.
  13. So, you do not want to pay union dues. That is your choice. Then you can negotiate your own employment contract with Ford and have no representation or assistance from the union when you might need it. Will that work for you?
  14. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next round of bargaining with respect to the 2cd tier pay rate and benefits. IMHO, the 2cd tier should be brought up to the 1st tier or as close as possible. As autoworkers we are all the same and should be treated the same in all aspects of the job.
  15. Little country, you can not grasp the concept that I was trying to put forward. The concept of fair and equal trade that would benefit both of our economies and preserve our middle classes. Our current trade deals do not make sense.
  16. No it didn't. Our respective governments should protect its economies and their middle classes by requiring companies to invest/employ where they sell. Ford is the number one auto seller in Canada but has fewer employees than GM, Chrysler, Toyota or Honda. That doesn't make sense. Missing the days of the Autopact!!
  17. Thanks. With your profit sharing payouts included, Canadian and American first tier employees make about the same. Although the cost of living in Canada is said to be 15-20% higher than the US, in real dollars, the Americans make more.
  18. What is the hourly first tier rate for hourly production - assembly?
  19. Could the announcement of the investment at OAC be made this Wednesday ?
  20. We would transfer to OAC if we could transfer back to Windsor as soon as there was work for us back home rather than being able to transfer only when a layoff at OAC would be issued. I do not want to nor can afford to live in the GTA given my circumstances. Remember this - in 2002 negotations, we in Windsor were ready to strike if there was no investment at OAC ( the Edge was to be awarded to CAP but our actions strong armed the company to give it to OAC and preventing closure) I hope those at OAC are now willing to do the same for Windsor if it comes to having to use that tactic.
  21. Top brass will be at Oakville in mid June. I would expect the announcement to be made then. Job one for the next generation Edge is to be around last quarter this year or first quarter 2014. OAC is secure for a long time. The future focus should be on Windsor. We need new product investment to secure employment after the 5.4 is done and even more to bring the only people left on lay off status in North America operations - some who have been ILO for 6 years now.
  22. The 5.4L V8 production has been extended to 2015. The V10 production needs have increased and life of product to 2018. We are awaiting new investment. There will be a few hundred retiring by the end of the contract and a few hundred will lose recall rights by the end of the contract. I have until March 2019 to be recalled. I rather work in Wndsor for $ 20.00/hr rather than take a transfer to TO. You will see more people from Windsor coming on the next round of transfers next year when they start the third shift in trim and chassis. They skipped the last round of transfers because they want to be near the bottom of Oakvilles seniority list hoping for a layoff and a transfer back to Windsor.
  23. The 20% threshold only relates to US production employee numbers. In Canada, we went another way - 10 year full wage grow in and a defined contribution retirement savings plan for all new hires. We still have about 700 production and trades on layoff.
  24. A few questions from a Canadian employee, where we do not have profit sharing for the hourly employees. -what is the wage for a production employee - 1st tier? -is the $8,300 average payout for the 4th quarter or for the full year - if it is just for the 4th quarter, what were the payouts for the 1,2 and 3rd quarters? Thanks and Merci.
