rkisler
Ford is going to install solar panels with a battery storage system at WAP. Good in a lot of ways for Ford, including the cost (considering outside investment/grants), and image as WAP moves to BEV and next-generation HEV and PHEV cars. The maker of the battery backup system is XTreme Power; they are one of the companies located in the Wixom plant, so that helps move that conversion along. Detroit Free Press Article. rkisler
According to the article, Ford Motor Company do have existing electrical Truck. Why don't they sale those trucks? I haven't seen any announcement of the commencement of sale of the Transit Connect BEV, but I assume it will be soon. It is probably going first to commercial customers. The trucks Ford is talking about here will be different and TC wouldn't work. The stampings for the new Focus will be made in the same stamping and body shop as the "old" WAP, then transferred to the "old" MTP where they ultimately will be conveyored over the railroad tracks for final assembly. Ford could perhaps have built a new conveyor system to connect these two buildings, but conveyors are very expensive and perhaps there were other issues. So these electric trucks will do shuttle service. They are special purpose inside the confines of the plant, so they might end up being quite different than an on-road vehicle. Biker16
I think they should be adding wind turbines as well. Does Michigan have net metering laws, yet? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Net_metering batteries are expensive and inefficent. Sell the excess power back to the grid using it as battery. 100% effiicent.
