aneekr
What is this I hear that some 2011 Fords will use Dexcool? Generally speaking, Ford of Europe based vehicles sold in NA (Fiesta, Transit Connect) use an OAT engine coolant with 2-EHA. This is considered the Dex Cool type. Applications also include 2011 Super Duty with gasoline engines and 2011 Mustang. Other Fords use HOAT coolants with formulas containing boron sodium hydroxide/sodium tetraborate or benzoic acid/potassium hydroxide/sodium nitrate. Motorcraft Part No. VC-3-B, Specialty Orange Engine Coolant with Bittering Agent (OAT, Dex Cool style) Motorcraft Part No. VC-10-A2, Specialty Green Engine Coolant with Bittering Agent (HOAT, Japanese mfr. style with benzoic acid) Motorcraft Part No. VC-7-B, Premium Gold Engine Coolant with Bittering Agent (HOAT with sodium tetraborate)
lfeg
Could the reason be a the combination of materials in the engine and cooling system? Different engines that require different coolants can lead to service issues for users, as some people cannot seem to spec the right ones, they always want to use what is on hand. On the Dexcool, I have had good experiences with it. You just have to remember to use only distilled water with it. Minerals and other compounds in potable water seem to cause problems with it.
