gregross
Can the power lift-gate be operated manually? There are times when you have something that doesn't quite fit, like a piece of lumber that you want to have stick out the back and tie down the lift gate so I would want to open / close it manually. gregross
Also, I take it the rear window doesn't open? BIg mistake. I wonder why they did that?
akirby
Can the power lift-gate be operated manually? Yes. Also, I take it the rear window doesn't open? BIg mistake. I wonder why they did that? According to the engineers the latch/handle/whatever would have blocked rear visibility so they decided against it. That's their story and they're sticking to it. RHermann
I wondered about the rear glass opening too. In looking at the design, they seem to have let that as option for the future since there is no weatherstripping sealing the outermost edge of the glass to the body. Yes, the glass is most definitely sealed! I mean that the glass looks like it is floating rather than sealed with no gaps. Actually, that is one of my only design disappointments with the new Explorer. I wish there some way to seal the edges of the glass for the rear side windows and the rear hatch. I don't know, but I would guess it would be better aerodynamics. I know it would be easier waxing and keeping clean!
