Ford, why are some '07 Mustangs on quality hold?

Recommended Posts

To any Ford quality Engineer/Exec.

My GT has been on order since March 28th, built sometime before the 10th. of June. Scheduled for delivery the week of the 18th.

Now, I find out it's been on "quality hold" Everyone reading this knows that Ford wants to ship and bill these units as soon as possible, and I cant blame you. Every day you hold them, the intrest meter is ticking.

What bothers me at this point, is the quality issue must be serious to leave them on hold for this amount of time.

I have not been able to find out what the quality hold is for, what is involved, or what the fix is. As a jet engine mechanic for General Electric holding an A&P with an FAA Inspection authorization, quality is very important to me.

I expect to be informed the exact nature of the the quality hold affecting these cars, or I will be forced to refuse delevery on this vehical (you don't seem to comunincate with the dealers any better than customers)

my email is

joseph.steele@ae.ge.com

Let me add I am a long time Ford customer, with this Mustang being number 6 in the last 5 years alone. I don't really want to go elswhere, but I am the one who writes the check, and the point is I CAN co elswhere.

By the way, I am really PISSED to see photos on the the internet of virtual twins of my car. ordered 30-45 days AFTER I ordered mine. These Folks have theirs, ordered, or picked up off a lot......What gives?

So does no one have any information, or does no one care to comment? PLEASE?

Isn't 4 weeks on a quality hold, then getting caught in the the 2 week plant shutdown a little much? (my car has been built, and parked, sitting for 6 weeks) VOPC showed released th 9th. scheduled for delivery the week of of June 18th.

If we treated U.S. Air. Delta, Continental, UPS, FedEx, America West, not to mentiontion the U.S. Army. Navy, Coast Guard, (we overhaul and maintain the T700's for their Blawkhawk and Apache helecopters at GE)

like this, they would have pulled every engine out of our shop. We figure customers have the right to know what is going on with their equipment.

I still can't get a straight answer from the dealer/dealers rep/dealers reps boss about what the quality hold hold is for, or even when it's going to be released, much less shipped

This is the 5th. Ford I've purchased in 6 years, and If I can't get some answers, I am REALLY close to pulling the plug, ang going elswhere. (Maybe even to the dark side for an '08 Challenger)

I do not mean to offend anyone hear (OK, maybe a few!) but I am an Airframe & Powerplant mechanic, with an Inspection Authorization, so I I know what it's like to work for a living.

Since Afganistan and Iraq, I have been working 10 and 12 hour a day, 7 days week. I've been saving my O.T. to pay for my dream car, and I'm feeling just a little cranky

The wife has a whole other list of words that apply to my attitude for the past few weeks....go figure.

I have been out of the dealership business for a couple of years however I do have over 30 years of service. Based on past ford practices I would say the car is not on hold due to any mechanical or quality issues. At this time of the year the first month or so of the new model is held at the plant until ford is ready to start releasing that year and model vehicle to the public. Ford usually has an official new model release date of the last Thursday in September. Pre-sell or early release is usually 4 or 5 weeks prior to the official release. The long and short of it ford will not allow delivery of the vehicle until early release. My best guess is you will not be able to take delivery of the vehicle until mid to late August. It has been that way since I started in the business in the 70’s.
