Right now the Explorer is spot on for the market, with the right look and gas mileage......and more sales So it's a winner. The Durango is a great version of the typical RWD SUV. It's a winner too in my book.

 

They aren't going toe to toe anymore. Different buyers with different needs.

In the absolute purest sense, that's true.

 

But the Camry is still the best selling sedan..........and IMHO it's crap. Virtually any other sedan in that market is better.

 

Important part highlighted.

 

Better only matters if it's better in ways that the potential buyer cares about. Most Camry buyers just want a comfortable dependable appliance that gets them from A to B.

 

This. We may think it's a sad state affairs but that's the way it is. There's a reason vanilla is the most popular flavor of ice cream.
